We have:
Samsung - 46" Class / 1080p / 120Hz/ LED-LCD HDTV
Model: UN46C6500VF
Samsung - Internet Connectable/Wi-Fi Ready Blu-ray Disc Player

We also have Wii and Time Warner Cable DVR digital cable
We're trying to decide between these two home theater systems:
Yamaha - 600W 6.1-Ch. Home Theater System
Model: YHT-493BL
Samsung - 500W 5.1-Channel Home Theater System

go with the yamaha if its between these two, the samsung HTIBs sound terrible (as do most HTIBs) but the yamaha sounds the least terrible of the two.

If we didn't go with an HTIB, what receiver and speakers could we get for a reasonable price?

The only decently priced system besides a typical HTIB is the Definitive Technology 600 series 5.1 set that has an active subwoofer instead of a passive. however there is a HTIB that i actually would buy considering its price: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Denon+-+3"+3D+Pass+Thr
New Denon receiver with 3D pass through that comes with decent speakers that dont sound like you are listening to music through a tin can.

thanks for the Denon suggestion. We are musicians ourselves & will also want to listen to a lot of music.

I don't have any experience with the Samsung system, however I liked my first Yamaha HTIB system so much that I bought a second one. (One for the "office", one for the living room.)

okay, thanks for that. We do have a separate music listening system - this is just for the TV.

We ended getting up the Denon - 3" 3D Pass Through Floor Speaker System & we're getting it installed by Geed Squad July 27th. We'll report back later about how we like it. Thanks everyone.
