I have had my Samsung DLP take a crap on me after 7 years. I am looking to buy either a new Samsung UN46D6900W, a LG 47LW5600, or a Panasonic TC-P42ST30. I am kind of relunctant to buy Plasma with the burn in and other issues. I have riound it down to these three, so any insight into my decision would be helpful.

they are ALL great TVs. It boils down to preference. It I were making the decision, I would take the 42ST30. My reasoning: no interpolated motion smoothing, quicker refresh rate, better off-angle viewing, and more natural colors before calibration.
Downsides: glass screen will reflect light depending on the position of sunlight coming into your room, dimmer picture, colors dont "pop" like some people think they like. Some say plasma looks dull, I find it more natural, but opinions count for something.

I would go with the LG 47LW5600 I prefer passive 3D and the new models have all 3 million pixels shown. Your also getting the biggest screen and probably the best smart apps. The panny is ok to. Stear clear of the Sammy.
Plasmas are ok but dead after Oled becomes common.

I have to agree with Darkwing. I have the 60ST30 and after doing some basic calibration it's simply stunning. Burn in and "other issues" like IR are a thing of the past. The consistent black levels and the detail in the blacks on these plasmas blow away any LCD even close in price.

If these are you top three, you'd better hurry. The Panny and LG sets are pretty hard to find now. The Samsung 6900 will be that way soon enough.

The Samsung LEDs have had some troubles recently with flashlighting and bleeding from the edges and many have reported that their build quality has been declining recently.LG is doing better with LEDs lately. It still happens if you're not careful. I watched a lot of ESPN and cable news and had severe IR with my plasma about a year ago (it would take 30 mins for the ESPN logo to go away if I watched for an hour). Samsung replaced my panel with a used one that had major burn-in already (they gave me a refund under warranty). Of course, it wasn't a Panasonic, but it can still happen if you don't vary your viewing or if you watch TV in 4:3 format a lot. My viewing habits weren't good for a plasma owner.
All three of these are good I would def stay away from samsung TVs now the fliker and wierd LED burn out and color shift the quality is just not there any more and they just dumped the LCD busniess.
LG has reallys stepped thier game up and thier Dlna smart platform is probably the best, good banf for you buck.
Plasmas are nice but if you have that dark of a room a projecter might be for you. They have less burn in problems but they are still there. Also the weight and mounting can be a problem you want to watch a tv where you want.

you don't need a dark room for a plasma, as long as you can avoid direct sunlight on the screen you're fine.

These are all fantastic ideas. If your concern about plasma is burn-in, there's a great LG plasma or two that have a godsend in their TV menu: "ISM Method". You have pixel-shift to prevent stationary logos from burning in and white-wash which is akin to shaking an Etch-a-Sketch to remove the image you doodled on it with the two white knobs (talk about old-school!) It's 50 inches of sexy at a sexy price. I'm just sayin.
