I had my Dish Satellite system upgraded to HDTV. All HD channels work on Encore Movies work good, along with locals.

Dish is having free weekend with HBO and Cinamax. When I try to access them, I get a message that says my receiver doesn't have HDCP.

Calling there tech I’m told it has something to do with a Copyright.

By your receiver, do you mean an audio receiver?  In order to view HDCP, you need to be connected via HDMI cable.

Is that all the"tech" had to say? Doesn't sound like a free HBO Cinemax weekend to me.

It would help if you posted the model of your reciever and TV, along with how you have your system cabled.
