I am in the market for a new television. I wanted to buy a Smart TV so I could access ABC, CBS, etc. to get shows that I missed (and are not available on Hulu). I have been told that I cannot stream from these sites. I currently have a Tivo and access to Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and YouTube. Is there any benefit to buying a Smart TV? Do they use different technologies (such as Goggle TV)?
Thanks in advance to any who take the time to help.

Paying extra for "Smart" functionality would not benefit you. Outside of potentially more seamless operation, your Tivo box provides much of the same thing.
You can always hook up a budget laptop to your display to stream video content.

Thank you for your reply. I am beginning to get the idea that Smart TV's are not ready for prime time.
