Hello, we're considering buying a model 6500 Samsung 46" LCD/LED TV . We currently have a Panasonic Home Theater system (5 speakers) connected to an old TV that is about 8 years old. I'm assuming we will need to buy a new audio system for the new Samsung TV. Could you help verify that? Also, is the speaker system absolutely necessary? Thank you.

A brief lookup of your model shows that it has the typical red and white connections (output). This is all you need to connect to your existing audio system. The old one will work.
However, a new system with better connections (HDMI, etc) would give you better audio output and clearer sound.

Also, is the speaker system needed? In most cases, yes. The speakers included with the TV are only 10watts a piece and are not designed with the clear, deep sound you would get from an audio system. On other words, they would sound similar to an old TV ![]()
You would want to add your existing audio system or a new one to it, and it doesn't seem like that would take much.
Of course, if you dont wish to go through the trouble of setting the speakers up and running the wires, the speakers included would work, if not very clearly or very loudly.

Thank you for your prompt reply. We're thinking of a bundle with a DVD/blue ray player & LinkStick Wireless USB Adapter. Right now, we cannot really afford to add a new full home theater system, so we'll probably make due with the old Panasonic speaker system, but it sounds like it will at least work. One more question - what type of cable do we need to buy to hook up a Wii system to the new Samsung TV (currently we have the 3 plug system - white, yellow, and I think, black? Thank you.

The Nintendo Wii is capable of delivering high-quality graphics with precision and clarity. Use this Component Video Cable to get the most out of your system. This cable will deliver high-quality video signals to your TV, giving you crystal-clear images you'll want to reach out and touch. The cable splits video signals into three parts, one for brightness and two for color. This split results in more vivid colors with less bleeding and more accuracy. Your games will have the lifelike quality they were designed to display.
The Wii has available several options for hookup you can buy, but the tri-color (yellow, white, red) will work just fine on the TV. There will be no changes from your old TV in your view.
Upgrading your cable to a better cable will cause the picture to come in clearer.
