This post is true, and the most likely cause of many On Screen Guide problems.

 

I have a much newer Samsung (purchased 2/5/2017) and it exhibits the same behavior. 

 

It would be very nice if Samsung would come forward and explain exactly how the OSG works, why it might fail, and how Samsung is dealing with the problem.

I have a Samsung and Sony Bravia. I have basic cable. My Sony is about 10 years old and is able to identify what is currently playing at the top of the screen.

My Samsung can only identify digital channels at the top of the page and not any of the cable channels. The guide and channel list also only show digital channels. This TV was purchased Dec. 2016.

Pretty frustrating for a brand-new TV.

Pay £1000 for a upmarket Tv and the guide stops working!

If you update the date and time to the correct time I found that the TV GUIDE was working again.

If you look back at my earlier posts you will see that I too was completely baffled by it. The guide is there for a period of time sometimes just days and then gone again often for weeks or longer. Frankly its more often gone than there. Samsung gave out some rigmarole about updates in the software when I first contacted them but how does that explain its not there for most of the time, then appears and disappears within a few days again?  Why this is not a bigger issue for Samsung I do not know. It is hugely annoying and I dont believe there is any solution out there either.

go to menu

channel

guide type

change freeview to samsung

exit

wait a couple of minutes

guide should work 

(slightly different look)
