Thank you for tflorinsharing your experiences. I hope that I can have the same luck as you in getting Samsung to fix an obvious manufactured defect.

i did exactly what was recommended by rew4946 and Samsung is sending a Tech out to my house to fix the issue at no cost to me. the customer service people were very nice and i didnt even need to really do much but call, they seemed to be well aware of the issue. i bought my tv in 05/07/2007 as well. they did happen to mention that if the problem was not the chip i would be liable for the service call and an estimate would be given to me for the future repair, but by the souds of all the other issues it looks as if i have the chip problem. so, ill let everyone know how it goes on monday as that is when the tech is supposed to stop out to fix the chip problem.

I wanted to follow up and second what penmin36 posted.
I originally had alot of trouble with this - the best I could get was them to provide the chip for free - but it was gonna cost several hundred for them to install it.
I did nothing for a few months - then I saw penmin36's post - so I thought I'd try again.
This time was completely different - no asking for supervisors - or jumping through hopes. I simply told the guy that answered the phone that I continue to have the White Dots issue and that I see online that they are repairing this for free. The guy asked a few typical questions - then told me they would repair it for free.
Literally 2 days later, my TV was repaired for free in home by the samsung tech.
just thought I'd let you all know.,

Just an update on my situation. The TV repair guy actually came yesterday and replaced the chip for free. Took about 15min. I am completely satisfied with the service. Problem solved.

It's nice to hear some good news from Samsung DLP owners. I have filed a complaint against Samsung with BBB and Office of Attorney General. I am hoping that Samsung will fix my defective DLP after all the efforts.

I just contacted Samsung today after reading everything on here. I had my fingers crossed that I wasn't going to have to fight them. After asking me to describe the problem and telling him that I have unplugged the tv and the spots still didn't go away, he told me a repair technician would be in contact with me and the chip would be replaced for free if that's the cause! Thank you to everyone who has posted about this issue! Without it, I would be in the market for a new tv even though I don't want to be. I will post back and let you know how it goes.

Just an update, Samsung offers to pay for the part (DLP Chip) and I pay for the labor (about $200) after I filed a complaint with BBB and Office of Attorney General. I took Samsung's offer as I want the TV fix and don't want to fight anymore.

OK folks...here's my story...last week I noticed FIVE white dots on my HLT6176SX/XAA 61inch TV screen. I googled the problem and saw 100's of posts about the white dots. I went to the official Samsung website and did a live chat with a rep. I stated that I saw 100's of posts by people with the same problem and that I read it was a factory defect with the DLP chip and even though my TV was four years old and out of warranty, I wanted it repaired FREE because it was a known defect. Of course the rep stated that they had "no knowledge of this issue" but they would arrange for a "one time courtesy call". If the repair needed was for the DLP chip, there would be no cost to me. If there was another problem, I would have to pay a trip charge and would get an estimate to do repairs needed. I felt VERY confident it was the chip problem and agreed. I got a call from the nearest Samsung authorized repair place the next day and the tech left here about an hour ago. YES, it was the DLP chip issue. He replaced the defective chip, told me I had just over 8000 lamp hours and would need to change that soon, put everything back, gave me a copy of the service ticket and I gave him a nice tip :-) So, my advice is BE FIRM with Samsung, tell them you know all about the defective DLP chip causing increasing amount sof white dots on the screen and insist they set up a courtesy repair for you!!
