Samsung 32" TV swiches from AV to HDMI2, Image displays will not go away?

My new, June 17, 2018,  Samsung TV model UN32J5500AFXZA LED 10 switches from AV mode to HDMI2 by its self?   Also, an image will appear on the screen that ;looks like a caption, but it is not.  It will display in Spanish, Engish and lately as two musical notes.  The only way to remove it is to disconnect the power.  Any suggestions?

The HDMI switching sounds liked HDMI CEC is enabled. This can go by a few names, Anynet, HDMI Control or CEC. You can disable it, as it can cause issues when you’d rather be in charge of switching inputs. The box with the text and symbols sounds like a close relative of Closed Caption, it should be found in the same area as CC and is labeled Text 1, 2, 3,or 4.

CEC is generally enabled by default, but the Text field isn’t. Hope this helps.

Re: Samsung 32" TV swiches from AV to HDMI2, Image displays will not go away?

Hi Jdogg836,

Thanks for the information.  I went in and checked my captions option.  I switched it to default from CC1.  CC1 is what I use on my other TVs.

I found the CEC option under ANYNET and turned it off.  It will me take awhile before I can verify the results, but thanks agin for your assistance.

Cheers,

... Ron.

Re: Samsung 32" TV swiches from AV to HDMI2, Image displays will not go away?

Mariah,

jdogg836 was a big help.  But I am still evaluating the answer.  I believe the answer gave me a clue as to why the source changed from AV to HDMI by itself, a spuriuos signal from the DVD palyer.  I have yet to use the AV input and see if it still switches.  Also, I eliminated the CC1 caption option.  So far the image has not reappered, but I wonder why I cannot use the CC1 option?

Are you using a cable or satellite box connected to the tv with HDMI by chance? In those instances I’d recommend using the captioning in the device as opposed to the TV.

A DVD player is connected to HDMI2.  I have ROKU connected to HDMI1.  The image problem occurs with OTA reception.  I turned off CC1 and so far have not seen the image reappear.  Thanks for the followup.

Re: Samsung 32" TV swiches from AV to HDMI2, Image displays will not go away?

The issue of a switch from AV to HDMI2 is resolved with assistance from Best Buy.  Here is the solution.  With HDMI-CEC turned on the TV will detect when an input device is turned on and switch to that input source.  In my case I have one remote that controls two input devices,  attached to AV and HDMI2  respectfully.  When I pause the AV device and then restart it the other device is turned on that caused the TV to switch.  I turned off the HDMI-CEC.  This is not covered in the E-Manual.
