I purchased a Panasonic Viera 42U2 last Christmas and have been happy with it up until the beginning of the summer.  Since then I have a noticed an increase in a purple ghosting around certain bright objects and/or moving objects.  This effect doesn't happen all the time but has become more frequent over the past month.  It happens on both the Satellite and Blu-Ray HDMI connections and I have tried replacing the cables but the issue is still occurring.

Has anyone else had this issue or a similar issue and found a solution other than returning it for a replacement?

I would definitely be concerned about this. As you are still in you one year manufacturer's warrenty, I'd definitely contact your manufacturer or Best Buy to have it checked out. The panel could be the culprit, and that part is usually more expensive then the TV itself! So, as you are rapidly approching the end of your warrenty (assuming you do not have an extended one), worry about this *now* and have it looked at.
