Non Traditional Setup

My company has a 50 inch TV for network monitoring.

We are very security aware, and do not allow any type of radio (AM/FM/Extra), WiFi, or BlueTooth in our secure area. The company also does not allow PCs in this area for the same reason.  This is because electronic information can only go from "in to out," and not the other way.

Were looking for a system which will have a DVD player to be connected to the 50 Inch TV, the ability to play MP3s on home-made CDs, four speakers and cable for a room roughly the size of a high school class room.

However, NO RADIO, WIFI, BLUETOOTH or PC based system.

Can anyone suggest a solution???

Thanks.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

Um, buy a DVD player (all DVD players can play mp3s), a receiver, four speakers, and the necessary cabling. There you go.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

While many receivers advertise Bluetooth capability, most of them require an extra dongle to support it.

The base-model Yamaha HTIB system offered by Best Buy is in that category - It mentions "Bluetooth" on the box, but BT support requires an additional adapter NOT sold with the unit.  So "out of the box" it's safe in a "no radios allowed" environment.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately no bluetooth means just that.

Suppose someone buys a dongle and transfers data?  Not secure at all.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

Hello,

Thanks for your response.

I know absolutely zero about music and theatre systems.  Dont receivers "receive" Am and FM?  Also, not all DVD players play to a 50 inch screens, or so I am advised.

Since this is a retail store web site, my hope was a sales man would reply with links to the products I need.

Thanks again.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

Any DVD player will work. I don't know who told you that they won't work with a 50" TV.

A receiver simply has inputs and outputs. You'd connect the DVD player to the receiver, then connect the speakers and TV to the receiver as well. The video will be routed to the TV, and the audio goes to the speakers.

You're avoiding radios which are capable of transceiving useful information. There's no reason to be afraid of an AM/FM radio, unless you're afraid of music being beamed into your building, which is happening anyways. If you're really concerned, you can wrap the receiver in aluminized cellophane and poke some airholes for ventilation. That way, the receiver will be incapable of receiving radio signals.

There's really no way to recommend products since you can buy literally any DVD player, any receiver, and any speakers.

Usually in secure environments, it's transmitters (not receivers) that are the problem, for the reasons stated by other users.

This is a community support forum - if you want to talk to a salesperson, I reccommend going to a store.

I strongly recommend choosing a system with no transmitters and then discussing it with your lab's ISSO.  They will, in the end, be far more helpful than any salesperson can be.

Re: Non Traditional Setup

Alright here's what you'll need for everything to work the way you want:

50" monitor

speakers

speaker wire

DVD player (any will work, TV size doesn't matter)

a 4 channel amp (different then the receiver, there is no processing going on, it is just power)

a stereo mini to RCA cable (for the mp3 player to play into the amp)

This should allow you to do everything that you want without any wireless, blue tooth, or AM/FM in the room at all. The one catch is whatever store you go to as far as bestbuy is concerned will need to have a Magnolia Home Theater section so you can get the amp. You can find some amps online, you'll just need to make sure it has connections for at least four speakers, if you use a two channel for instance you might want to get a speaker selector so you can run more then just the two channels. a two channel amp would look like this: http://speakercraft.com/#Products:135:BB275%202-Channel%20Amplifier

Look at that a sales person can help ha, hope that makes sense as far as how it would all work, if not message me and I can go into more detail

[ Edited ]

I am 95%+ certain that the basic Yamaha HTIB system will do the trick for the OP.

WOOT!  We can edit posts now...  But the private message function seems to have become much more difficult to find...  Attempting to send a PM to the original poster...
