Looking For A New TV

So, my wife and I redesigned our living room, getting all new couches, tables, etc. Well, we ended up moving the TV across the room as well. We have a 40" LCD TV by Vizio which has been a great TV, but unfortunately, we went from sitting 8' away from it, to 17' away. Now, I can't really enjoy watching my TV because of how small it looks. Now, I'm looking at getting one about 60" big, but I haven't been able to get a definite "buy this one" from anyone I've talked to in the stores. I've been to three different BB stores, talked to about 8 different associates and each and every one has given me different information as to what I should be looking for in my new TV. I'm open to any type of TV (LCD, LED or Plasma), just so long as it's a slim frame. Some more info about me and my family. We have 4 people in our family, 2 of us are big time gamers playing 360 and PS3 often. Our whole family watches a lot of TV and Movies, so I'd like to get one with 1080p, and as high a refresh rate as possible. The room we'll have it in has one large window at about a 90 degree angle from it and a smaller window directly across from it.

We're kind of tight on money right now because we've had some unexpected medical expenses come up, but we were approved for a BB credit card and have about $1000 limit on it. I appreciate any and all opinions on this and will respond as quickly as I am able to any follow up questions. Thank you all in advance! :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Looking For A New TV

I will say that is a low budget for a good 60" tv. If you could I would try to bump that up to $1,200-$1,500.

If this isn't the case I will research some lower models and see what I can come up with

Well, our card was approved for that much, we could chip in some more in cash for the difference, but not too much more.

Three different stores? Eight different sales people? Dude, it's time to just man up and make a choice. You don't wanna buy a salesmans favorite TV, you wanna buy YOUR favorite TV.

Anyways, If you're not big on 3D, this this Sharp TV is worth a look.

Re: Looking For A New TV

When you say serious gamers does that mean serious as online serious FPS/fighting game competetive where milliseconds count. Or serious as in you guys log a ton of hours in game where you like being competetive, but it's not the end-all-be-all.

Reason I ask is to judge how to weigh input lag in your TV selection.

Re: Looking For A New TV

If you can chip in a few hundred in cash, the LG PV250 plasma is on sale for $1200 right now. I realize this is a bit above your limit, but at that price any 60" LCD you get is going to be bottom tier. The only 60" LCD under $1000 at the BB website is a Zenith, and it's not the great.

This plasma is a good TV, and using tweaks that can be found over at avsforum it can have a super nice picture. Even without them it's still miles ahead of that Zenith.

Considering the size room you have though, you should really consider the Mistubishi DLP that's going for just under $1000.00. It has a STUNNING picture once you calibrate it. You'll need a 12-17" stand for it, and it's not thin like you want, but it really is nice. DLP is still by far the best bang for buck that you'll get.

Re: Looking For A New TV

That LG looks really nice. The only issue I have with the DLP is that we have our current TV mounted, and we'd like to put our new one in the same place. There's open space enough for a 60" to a 65" TV there, but there are bookshelves on both sides that are mounted into the wall, so we're limited to that unfortunately.

I would suggest holding off a bit then and waiting for holiday sales. That LG has been known to drop under $1000.00.
