LCD installation height

How high should a LCD TV been installed in a room?  The two seating/viewing areas are 11 and 17 feet away from the wall.  The geek squad is installing but calling their hot line they could not give me any recommendation or information.  I need to understand this as my electrician is installing a power outlet and wants to understand how high.  I know there is some leeway with the size of the 55 inch TV being installed.  Thanks.

Eye level is always the best or as close to eye level as possible

Re: LCD installation height

The horizontal center line of the screen should be as close as possible to eye level when you are sitting at your normal viewing area.

Re: LCD installation height

Normally I install the TV so the bottom of the TV is 40 inches from the floor. Usually on bigger TVs I put them lower, around 35-38 inches. I've installed TVs 20 inches from the floor to a TV that I did today was about 55 inches from the floor, and it was a 55" plasma IN A BEDROOM. In my opinion it's not that big of a deal, they all end up looking great.

That seems awful high for someone sitting on a couch though. I've been in several homes like this and could never understand the desire to look up at a TV. It's just not comfortable for long viewing periods. TV stands, especially ones for larger are around 18"-20" high.

Re: LCD installation height

I will agree that it seems too high.  It must cause neck fatigue after a while, having to look up at a TV all the time.

Re: LCD installation height

Typically my company always installs displays at 6'-0" Above Finished Floor (AFF) to the center of the screen.

Would you mind explaining the reasoning behind this? Is this what your customers want or what you think is best? I'm just curious because I don't understand the logic behind it.

Re: LCD installation height

40 inches is way to high for a tv. I just installed a 60 inch tv and from the bottom of the tv to the floor is 29 inches. 6ft above finished floor is crazy.
