Re: I need "Internet Connectivity for Dummies"

The wi-fi device doesn't plug into my laptop it's a stand-alone device.  You can actually connect up to 3 devices at one time using my wi-fi.  I also went out and looked at the LG website for the blu-ray player but it doesn't show which wi-fi adapter is needed.  Any ideas?  and like I said I need "DUMMY" instructions please.  Item numbers, links, and/or pictures would be helpful.

Thank you for your help.

Bottom line here is you CAN'T do what you want to, and you should be thankful for this. Actually you CAN, but the steps involved would be even more ridiculous.

Wireless IS NOT AN OPTION for you. Buy the hardcopy of your movie.

Re: I need "Internet Connectivity for Dummies"

OK, thanks. Should I be looking at changing my internet service/connection? Like I said I left it up to the guy at Best Buy to help me decide on the best option for me. It now looks like that was a mistake.

Possibly. The BBY rep should have qualified you on your internet usage. Mobile and computer reps are under a great deal of pressure to move mifi devices, so some in sales may still recommend such devices to those that do no fit the profile.

If you require fast access to the internet, while on the move, then you made the right choice. Just remember, it's an expensive choice.

You have a limit per month on the amount of data you can transfer over that device. To put things into perspecitive, Netflix through your blu-ray player will use that limit in in anywhere from 2-5 movies alone. After that you'll start paying hefty overage fees.

Your best bet for internet access for your bluray player is to call your local Cable or Phone company and subsribe to a broadband plan for your residence.

Re: I need "Internet Connectivity for Dummies"

I actually did inquire about broadband when I first looked into getting internet service but I was told by AT&T that there weren't any more broadband connections available in my area. That's why I went to this alternative.

Don't depend on AT&T.  Call your local cable company and set up a broadband account with them.

forget AT&T. you need to first get yourself a cable internet in your house. not no mifi crap..

when you call the local cable company, you can just be yourself and they'll level with you.

once you get the internet set up in your house, if you insist on using your bluray player with wifi, get yourself a router. it's a device that send out wifi connection through the modem which will be given to you when setting up the internet

Re: I need "Internet Connectivity for Dummies"

Go back into the store and check with one of the associates in Home Theater.  I usually just pull up your address on a Connections "widget" (store system) and I would be able to list who has coverage at your location.  Can pull it up by just cable, internet, phone, or bundle options.  As the others have said, a mobile broadband, my-fi, device is not something you want to use for streaming purposes.  They're great for travelers who need a connection most anywhere as well as filling in when your tablet/laptop isn't in range of a wifi connection.

LG "did" make a wireless USB adapter that would work with their Blu-ray players that were just wifi cable instead of having the feature built-in.  However, they were discontinued close to a year ago.  Only other way to get internet to those if by running an ethernet (internet) cable to the unit, but I don't know if your broadband device has an ethernet port on it.

The OP was given a hotspot, a small 3G/4G unit smaller than a deck of cards.  It has no ethernet port.

Figured not.  Mobile is one of the areas I try to stay away from -_-
