How to eliminate 3D ghosting?

Recently bought a LG 3D UHD TV (65UH8500).  Overall, fantastic 2D functions with amazingly clear, deep and sharp colors.  However, experiencing annoying "ghosting" when viewing 3D.  Tried adjusting the 3D fine tuning functions, which seem to move the ghosting to different objects in the images.  Found positioning my viewing position farther, closer, up, down, etc., in relation to the screen had a similar effect of changing which objects had ghosting.  Any suggestions about how to completely eliminate 3D ghosting?

FYI, been using a Vizio 1080p 3D TV for several years and never saw any 3D ghosting.  Unfortunately, a 1/16" horizontal line "magically" appeared across about 3/4 of the screen, about 1/3 the way up from the bottom, which motivated me to buy the LG TV.

Re: How to eliminate 3D ghosting?

Hello WiFiWanderer,

The ghosting effects on your new 3D LG TV must be very frustrating, and I apologize that you’re having difficulty trying to remedy the issue. Have you checked to see if your TV has the latest firmware update?

It may be essential to fix this issue. Also, how are you viewing your 3D content? Sometimes the issue may be the source not the actual TV. Have you checked to see if a firmware update is available for that source?

Also, another thing to check is to ensure that you’re using Passive 3D Glasses with your LG model 65UH8500. The product listing states it included 2 pairs.

Please let me know if firmware updates do not remedy the issue, and I’d be happy to continue discussing possible things we may be able to try.

Thanks,

Re: How to eliminate 3D ghosting?

Exhausted all proposed solutions: manually downloaded and installed the latest firmware update using a flashdrive; wore the provided passive 3D glasses and bought a new LG 3D Bluray player.  Could not get rid of the 3D ghosting.  However, the numerous features and superb 2D images continue to be most impressive.  Today, I am picking up a new LG 55UH8500 and have scheduled the Geek Squad to come and collect the 65UH8500 for a refund.  I chose the smaller TV, because I can pickup the smaller lighter weight unit, myself without waiting for delivery.  Hope the newer unit is 3D ghosting-free, will see later this morning.

Began to wonder if my eyesight was failing, so viewed a 3D Bluray on my 3-year-old Vizio M601d-A3R, which developed a horizontal 1/16" line about 1/3 the way up from the bottom of the screen, couple weeks ago.  The Vizio still works, except there is that black line across 3/4 of the screen, which prompted me to shop for a new 3D TV.  The 3D Bluray was ghosting-free on my old Vizio.  Glad my eyesight was fine.

Re: How to eliminate 3D ghosting?

Hello WiFiWanderer,

Thank you for providing an update regarding what things you tried to trouble-shoot the 3D ghosting effects. It may have been a faulty unit. I'm happy to hear that you've already sought out an exchange.

Please let us know if you have the same issues with your new one!

Kindly,

Re: How to eliminate 3D ghosting?

Sorry to report that 3D ghosting turns out to be an intermittent problem with my 55UH8500, too.  Found that 3D ghosting appears on most of my 3D Bluray movies with expansive scenes, but not all.  On the 65UH8500, 3D ghosting was persistent on the left and right outer sides of scenes.  On my 55UH8500, 3D ghosting intermittently appears on the upper right side of the screen with most 3D Bluray movies.  I can tune it out by adjusting the 3D tuning features, but then 3D ghosting appears elsewhere on the screen, usually on outer sides of scenes.  When I replay a 3D Bluray, the 3D ghosting appears at the same times in the same scenes with the same 3D tuning settings.

Purchased a Geek Squad 5-year protection plan.  Being an Elite My Best Buy member, I have a month after purchase to decide whether or not to keep my 55UH8500 or return it.  My 3-year-old Vizio 1080p 3D 60" never had 3D ghosting, but now has that black line.  Geek Squad advised they might be able to repair my Vizio for about $400, which would not be refundable, heck of a pricey gamble.

Fortunately, 2D to 3D is ghosting-free on my 55UH8500.  All 2D images are superb, perfect as far as I can see.  TV internal sound is excellent.  On the fence as to whether or not to return the LG 55UH8500 for a refund.  Sure wish my favorite TV brand, JVC, made 3D models.  Each of my JVC TVs lasted at least a decade until I upgraded to newer technology.
