Home Theater System Troubleshooting

I purchased the Samsung HT-BD7200 about 2 years ago.  It no longer will play dvd's or blueray's.  It is no longer on warranty either.  I can send it back at a price of $160.  My question is whether i should just purchase a new blue ray player and a seperate receiver?  Can the speakers and subwoofer that came with the home theater system be used with different components?  Thanks!

Yes, you just have to wire them to a the reciever, along with your new player. You just have to make sure your AVR doesn't put out more watts than your speakers can handle.

Re: Home Theater System Troubleshooting

Uhhhhhh....... this is why 'techy' people shouldn't install or give advice. There is no wattage issues per say. You actually CAN NOT use your speakers from your older HTIB.  Reason being and I can be proved wrong then so be it. Those speakers are typically a 3ohm impedance and most A/V recievers are 6-8ohm loads. You will blow something in your reciever more than likely, OR the reciever will probably kick in to protection at high volumes.

HTIB (Home Theater In a Box, for you techy folks) were meant to limited to themselves and not to be expanded or interchanged. You're going to have to start over and get new speakers.

For future reference, instead of taking the cheap route, this is what people should do in the first place.

Re: Home Theater System Troubleshooting

If you have an available input on your existing system, and the issue is ONLY with the player section....you can avoid the extra expense and hoopla posted by buying a stand alone BluRay player and connecting to your existing system through the available input jack. If not, you may need to service or replace it. Make sure your speaker impedance matches your new purchase requirements if you wish to retain your speakers.
