Help: Samsung Refresh Settings

Hi, I recently bought a Samsung 46inch LCD TV - 1080/120hz. Model #LN46D630. The tv is currently set to 1080/60hz and I don't know how to change the refresh setting to 120hz. Can anyone help? I have the HDMI cord and HD cable box, but notice on occasion people's mouths aren't matching up to what they are saying. I also noticed (especially last night during the Superbowl game) that every time the view on the field changed quickly the entire screen would get pixely and correct itself within a second or two. This is a brand new tv and shouldn't be happening.  My parents have the exact same tv (also auto set to 1080/60hz even though it's a 120hz), same settings and this never happens. Does anyone know if it could be an issue with the tv or is it the cable? I'm technologically challenged and don't have a clue about these things. Thanks!

Re: Help: Samsung Refresh Settings

I have the same TV, but the previous year's C version.  The TV will display the signal it is receiving from the cable box which is always 60Hz.  The TV still refreshes at 120Hz either way.  The only setting would be to the Auto Motion Plus (Clear, Standard, Smooth).  Most suggest leaving it turned off or leaving it on Clear which is the low setting (which is where I keep mine).  Standard and Smooth settings look fake or cause the 'soap opera' effect.  They also tend to stutter.

As far as the pixellation you experienced, it's likely the channel you were watching or the cable company and can probably only be seen during a fast moving scene or a lot of flashing or movement.  For instance, I saw pixellation quite a bit during the halftime show with all the flashing lights, but I knew that was just my local NBC channel not having great bandwidth.  You can verify this by checking to see if it happens when watching a Bluray or another channel, such as ESPN.  ESPN tends to be one of the cleaner channels.

Re: Help: Samsung Refresh Settings

Thank you so much for the response. I actually remember setting my Auto Motion Plus to 'smooth' a couple of weeks ago. I'll have to remember where I found that setting and change it back to clear.

I'll also try contacting the cable company - I was thinking the pixelation might have something to do with my connection.

I really appreciate your help! Thanks

Re: Help: Samsung Refresh Settings

If the D model is the same as the C model, press the menu button, arrow right to mode, arrow down to picture options, then arrow down to auto motion plus to change the AMP setting.
