HDMI on Sony receiver is "blinking" and Sony Bravia TV says it needs another input

I bought a Sony Bravia home theater last Christmas, and am slowly learning how to navigate it!!  

 

I was doing well, when a strange aberration has blocked me from viewing cable content.   I can view Netflix directly from the TV, but can't view my cable channels.  There is a flickering on the AV that corresponds with flickering on the TV screen, before it goes blank.  It seems like things would be OK if the flickering stopped, but.........   Anyway, I am not sure if part of the problem is the cable, or the AV, or the TV or all.  I have gotten a message that the HDMI input needs to be changed, and I have definitely scrolled through my access to inputs from the HOME TV screens and the AV inputs.....

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!  Also, if anyone else has ever gotten very stuck on something simple, I'd feel better...........   :smileysad:  :smileysad:
