Can A flat screen be mounted above a fireplace either on the wall or mantel? I have heard different answers.

You will hear different answers because different experts vary in the answer.

For all intensive purposes I would say you can. But I'm not going to debate it ad nauseum. You could easily point to data and experts backing both sides of the argument.

Sure you can. Whether or not it's the best place is another question all together.
