TV & Home Theater

I do not have cable or satellite.  I do have an antenna and a digital converter box.  I have a VCR with a working tuner.  My DVD player has died and I need to replace it.  Do I need to get a DVD player with a tuner in it, or does the converter box and/or the tuner in the VCR take care of the tv channel issue?

Most DVD players don't have tuners. The converter box is your tuner..

Why are you refusing to upgrade? If it is a money Issue I can understand but analog everything?

Yes, it is a money decision.  I could afford satellite, cable, whatever, I just choose to not spend my money that way.  There is so little that I find of value on those channels, and I don't watch much,  so it would be a waste of money for me.  I watch DVDs and videos after work in the evening, and a little of the broadcast ME TV channel, and that is enough for me.  Between working, spending time with my family, and my hobbies, there isn't a lot of time for tv watching anymore.

I hear ya, drog. My cable bill is pretty outrageous. If I wasn't such a tennis fan, the tv part of my bill would have already been gone.

Sports is the only thing that keeps us paying for DirectTV. Local baseball, basketball, and college sports are all broadcast on channels that require a paid subscription. If it wasn't for that, we'd be on basic cable, streaming channels, and netflix.

Smart TVs and apps will proably be taking a big chunk of the cable people away soon. Internet streaming of what content you want when you want will proably be the norm soon in the next 3-5.  I can't imagine people with broadband not wanting to drop cable TV.
