Re: Discuss Surround Systems

Awesome thread guys! Get sick of all the constant complaining on here, although much of it is very entertaining. I joined the BBY forum to chat with all the folks irritated with the iphone debacle. Back on topic...

Here is what i have now (just in living room, basement to be finished soon):
Samsung PN58D560 (I think, might be the 550)
Onkyo TX-SR607
Klipsch Quartet Sats
Klipsch 10" downward firing sub (not sure the name of the line but the cheapest one, but holy heck that thing puts out some bass)
Logitech Harmony 900 (need RF because all of my components are in a closet in another room, love the clean look)
Apple airport express (love being able to hit a button on my Harmony 900 and listen to music from my iphone

I am considering buying a new TV for Xmas and am looking at the Samsung PN64D8000 or the Panasonic 65" VT30. I am not a big fan of #D but because both of these TV's are #D i would need to buy a receiver that is capable of 3D. I really like my Onkyo and have looked at getting the TX-NR709. I also have looked at Denon but heard their video replication can be really bad. Any thoughts or suggestions on other receivers? I like the Airplay feature on the Denon as I use and Iphone for my music, although not a huge deal because I already have an Airport express. Also dont mind feedback on tv brands/types.

Look forward to the feedback!

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

Dont worry about buying a new receiver, just buy a BD player that has 2 HDMI outputs.  More cost effective.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

You don't have to use the 3D feature of the TV therefore you done "need" a receiver that has 3D pass through. Especially if you aren't going to utilize 3D. Now if you think you might use it in the future then you should buy a receiver with the 3D if you want to everything ran through the receiver and only have to run one cable to the TV. But im sure you already know this.
the pioneer Elite vsx-50 has the airplay you're looking for, hdmi 1.4, has great video processing, and its not overly expensive.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

What is a BD player?

Thanks for the info chick. I like your handle, good mental pic! I know I don't need 3D but if the tv has it I would like to be able to use it (If I decide I like it). Also have directv which has 3D channels. I haven't even looked at Pioneer, I take a peek though. Also, I have everything run through my receiver now and have to keep it that way. Dish, receiver, ps3, wii, wireless router/modem, airport express all tucked away in a clost and only one HDMI run to the tv.

Thanks for all the help guys/gals.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

I don't know about the 2012 models of Denon but I know the 2011 models have excellent Video processing.  I recommend the 3311 or the 4311.  You can't  go wrong with Denon, Onkyo, Pioneer, or Yamaha.  But I will say if your used to the Audyssey calibration only Denon and Onkyo have it.

BD = Bluray Disc

Check out AVS forums for any info on any of the units your looking  buy.  Just keep your mind open as their are specific product only people on their that feel anything other than what they have is garbage.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

Mstng,
I have a ps3, but still need a receiver to get 3d as my ps3 runs through my receiver and is not directly hooked up to my tv. I have used the calibration and like it but is a PITA for me because the cable on the mic isn't long enough to go from the room where I have my receiver to the living room. Guess I could buy an extension.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

All of the current receivers use a mic for Calibration, I just meant if your used to Audyessy in general (has been mentioned as the best in built in calibration  but I can't say there is proof).  I have the Denon  3311 and it has 3D pass through and all of my components hook up to the receiver.  You are also able to watch TV off of one component with the receiver off.  In my case that is Cable TV.

Re: Discuss Surround Systems

Hello to everyone.

I'm new in the Home Theatre market. I have bought and purchased two "all in one" home theatre systems by Samsung , both of which had their problems..mostly with playing Blu-Ray discs. I have now some room and some dollars to create a new HT setup and I want to do it the right way. Here are the things I think I need, but please reply back with things I should probably be aware of..

I know i need:

- An Audio receiver (something that can play up to 7.2 channel surround)

- Speakers (I don't know where or what kind to buy, need help with this)

- an HD 3D LED TV (I know about TV's and will probably buy this part last to make sure I have the right inputs to match my Home theatre)

- Chairs (another things I need help with)

--

Is this essentially all I need for a home theatre?
