Connect Sharp Aquos to 4 Condcutor Speaker Wire

Just moved into a house that's wired with wall speakers and has two 4 conductor speaker wires coming out of the wall (landlord confirmed these are the wires for the wall speakers).

I know nothing about home theatre - how do I connect my Sharp Aquos TV to these wires for surround sound?

Thanks!

Re: Connect Sharp Aquos to 4 Condcutor Speaker Wire

Hello Keegs8710,

Moving is an exciting experience! Having in-wall speakers at your new abode is very cool. I’d be happyto see how I may be able to help.

The 4 conductor speaker wire isn’t able to be connected directly to your Sharp TV as they’d need to go a Home Theater Receiver. You’d need to pick a receiver that has the correct amount of channels. So a 5.1 system means 5 speakers 1 subwoofer, while a 7.2 means 7 speakers 2 subwoofers.

Once you’ve picked a receiver you may need what are called Banana Plugs to finish those ends.

Can you tell me more about your TV, and in-wall speakers? I’d be happy to help you by making a recommendation for you. Or if you’d like you’re more than welcome to take a few photos of the speakers & wires to your local Best Buy for a recommendation too!

Re: Connect Sharp Aquos to 4 Condcutor Speaker Wire

Thanks @Mariah-BBY.  I don't know much about the in-wall speakers - 2 speakers (left and right) mounted in the wall on each side of the room, each with a 4 conductor speaker wire running though the wall and out of an in-wall face plate.

The TV is an Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U.

Will these speakers override the TV speakers?  ie. the only sound I'll hear is sound coming from behind me (the speakers are mounted in the same wall as the couch)

I also have Klipsh ProMedia 2.1 system.  Can I use these speaker and sub for this as well?

Re: Connect Sharp Aquos to 4 Condcutor Speaker Wire

Morning Keegs8710,

Since there is only two in-wall speakers, and from what you suggested with the placement of them the previous tenant most likely used them as wireless rear speakers. This means they would’ve had 3 additional speakers which typically include a left, center, and right channel which would be placed around the TV.

The in-wall speakers when connected to your TV via a receiver would disable the built in speakers in your Sharp TV. Your TV only has 20 watts of sound, and your in-wall speakers can have anywhere from 25-60 watts each.

The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 one speakers you have are actually computer speakers, and wouldn’t be able to be used in combination with the in-wall speakers.

Taking the new information you provided into consideration you’d need a receiver, 3 more speakers, and possibly banana clips depending if the receiver only accepts finished cords to make this work. Please let me know if you need further direction, or have additional questions.
