Best BIG screen television value

I'm thinking about purchasing a 70-80 inch television for my home theater. Currently I have a 46" Sony that is three or four years old. I'm looking for a much bigger screen but do not have unlimited funds. I see the prices range dramatically for similar to same size screens. I'd love to hear what others have experienced and recommendations for the best "value" in BIG screen TV's.

Thanks!

Re: Best BIG screen television value

Best Value is subjective.  You can get a rather large DLP for cheap, but there is a reason they are cheap.  Some people love them and the PQ on them.  I hate them and the PQ they have but they do offer a massive screen for a cheap price.

Like Jimmie said what is your top cap?

Re: Best BIG screen television value

DLP offers a very good picture, and is cheaper because it does not require an LCD panel or Plasma panel.  You can get them up to 73 inches.  They have picture quality that is very good.  Off axis viewing is limited, though.

Re: Best BIG screen television value

$4k would be top end but under $3k would be better. I've seen a 70" Sharp LED that got really good reviews for closer to $2k. Or do I drop down to a 60' Samsung, a brand I've owned before and really like in the 32-42" reange.

Re: Best BIG screen television value

Sharp LED's are not great, their blacks are more grey unless you step up to the Sharp Elite which are nice TV's

I would go for the TC-P65VT30 well under your budget and rated one of the best TV's out there.

US appliance.com has it for $2397 plus a free pair of 3D glasses no tax and free shipping..  Well under your budget

Check with Best Buy to see what type of deal you can get on one since they are about $700 more..

Re: Best BIG screen television value

Is the room you are putting it in controlled lighting? I want to assume yes with the money you are looking at spending, but don't want to assume.

Of so I would second the VT30 if you can deal with 65". I would take an additional $250 and get a top of the line professional in your area to calibrate your tv.

The VT30 is closing in on Kuro blacks. Also the price point will be great over the next couple months as the 2012 product line will be coming soon.

If you can't deal with the 8" less I'll look into some others to suggest

Re: Best BIG screen television value

Mostly controlled lighting. It's in my walkout basement. I have north facing windows with blinds so outside light isn't a big issue. My primary viewing spot is 10-12' from the screen. Currently I have a 46" which is a little small for the room. I would think 65" would be a significant enough step up to still have some wow factor. Thanks for the feedback.

I would see if you can find a 65" set in stores and walk 10' back and see how it looks making sure it is big enough. Doesn't have to be the VT just a 65" set that's eye level.
