ARC issues....

I'm having ARC issues with my Yamaha rx-v675 and my new TV that I'm hoping you all can help me out with please.  I have a new Roku TV with ARC and my v675 has ARC.  I'm trying to get it so that when I watch some of the Roku options (Netflix....) I don't need to change inputs on my receiver to hear it.  Currently I have all of my components running to the receiver and 1 hdmi cable to the tv.  HDMI control is set to ON.  TV Audio Input is set to AV6.  ARC is ON.  Standby Sycn is Auto. Amp is greyed out (Control sync) and HDMI out (TV) is greyed out (Control sync).  I don't fully understand what all of those settings mean but I read the manual to the best of my ability and I'm still getting the input I've selected audio instead of Netflix audio.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance

 Hello hunters1234,

Welcome to the Best Buy Support Online Forum Community! Thanks for joining our community to share your ARC issues with us. I’d be happy to see if I can point you in the correct directions.

Usually it’s recommend to connect to HDMI ARC to get your TV to communicate properly with your receiver. Does your TV and receiver have an option to connect via Optical Audio? Your manual should include how to connect via that option. Also, have you updated the firmware for your receiver? I can see that new update was made available on 12/21/17 on Yamaha’s website.

Re: ARC issues....

Hi there.  Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I'm up to date with firmware.  I have connected my tv's optical out to my receiver's optical in AV4, and I can hear audio from the built in TV Roku apps (netflix...) when I switch to AV4 on the receiver, but I thought the purpose of ARC was so that I didn't have to A) connect that optical cable and B) have to switch to a different input on the receiver to hear the audio?

Re: ARC issues....

Hello hunters1234,

Thanks for following up with me! You are correct with the purpose of ARC, however, it seems this is the current fix for the issue. We had a community member that resolved a very similar issue within the last few months with the same fix. I believe they had a different TV though.

Privately the customer shared that Optical Audio fix worked for him. I’d be unable to speak to why that seems to be resolving the issue.

Re: ARC issues....

The problem with HDMI-CEC & ARC is that there are no standards so each manufacturer makes it to their own specifications and couldn't care less if your multi-brands work well together or not. Sometimes you can get it to work for a while and along comes a software update that knocks it completely out of whack. If you already have an optical cable from your TV to the AVR then just turn all that HDMI control off and go with that. If you want automatic switching then invest $50 into a Harmony remote and save yourself the aggravation.
