Recycling Small TV

I was a little confused about the Best Buy recycling program...i have a small 20 inch tube TV that no longer works....i read the website and it looked like there would be no charge for dropping it off...although there wasn't a "charge", they charged me $10.00 and then gave me a $10.00 gift card.  I really didn't need a gift card at the time but went ahead and went through with the transaction..is this typical?

Re: Recycling Small TV

As it states on the recycling info on bb.com:

We charge $10 for televisions and monitors, but you immediately receive a $10 Best Buy gift card good toward future purchase.
$10 fee does not apply to any Insignia®, Dynex® or VPR Matrix® products. Best Buy accepts these brands free of any charge.

Re: Recycling Small TV

Hi dttaylo2,

First off, thanks for recycling your TV with us! Sorry for any confusion on this! CrystalWoW is mostly correct in her response on this. In most states we charge $10 to recycle all Televisions and Monitors, and then provide the customer a $10 Best Buy gift card; this is not the case for every state, and in fact our recycling program varies state-to-state. Any other consumer electronics should be accepted without a charge.

Thanks again,
