Best Buy® announced on 4/20/2010 that we have set a goal to recycle 1 billion pounds of consumer electronics in the next several years. This is a significant increase in what our recycling program has done so far, but we are confident that once consumers realize how easy our program is to use we can achieve this goal.
In 2009 our in-store recycling program took in 60 million pounds of consumer electronics, and we recycled an additional 60 million pounds of Appliances with our haul-away program. Keep in mind that this was with very little publicity in regards to these two recycling options. With the nationwide TV commercial promoting our recycling program, and with every fan of Best Buy® on Facebook being invited to take part in our Recycle It On pledge application (1,125,000,000 and counting) we anticipate meeting this goal.
