What is the best way to get rid of old computers? I have several in the garage and I would like to get rid of them responsibly.

I believe at selected Best Buy stores you can turn in 2 units per day for recycling.

I’m glad you want to dispose of your outdated computer equipment responsibly.  We leave the world a better place when we recycle!   

Best Buy® has occasional recycling events where old computers, monitors and printers are accepted from our customers and disposed of safely.  Unfortunately, computer components and accessories are only accepted during Recycling Events.  Currently, in selected stores, our customers may drop off up to two electronic components per day for recycling.  To see a complete list of participating stores, visit the following: BestBuyMedia.tekgroup.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=4565.

You may also visit www.BestBuy.com/recycle for details of Best Buy®’s commitment to and options for recycling.  Under the Computer Hardware heading, there is a link to find a Recycling Event in your area.  If there is no event scheduled for your locality, there are links to additional resources which may help you dispose of the equipment safely and responsibly.  Always remember, your local Best Buy® store can provide additional information for you on any recycling events in your area! 

Another option for your consideration is BestBuyTradeIn.com where you may be able to earn a Best Buy® Gift Card for your gently used computer equipment.  Details of the program and approximate component values are available on the website.

I am a case manager of individuals with disabilities.  One of the individuals I work for is in search of a computer.  He doesn't need anything fast.  He wants to be able to play simple games and type notes to friends and family.  Are there any programs available to get grants or free computers for individuals with disabilities?  My individual just wants to work on his fine motor skills (He has cerebral palsy).
