I want to recycle a 36" CRT TV. According to this link http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat1
Can the moderator direct me to the best way to get this scheduled? I have some questions I need answered:
- what is the total out-of-pocket cost?
- is it a flat $100 fee, or are there surcharges for upstairs, or heavy items?

Hi austin-pop,
Your link is accurate that we currently charge $100 to recycle any TV 32 inches and larger, and that we would send out a team to pick up your TV. To schedule this pickup you would need to go to your local Best Buy® store, and I sincerely apologize for the inaccurate information you received when you called your local store. If you decide to have us recycle your TV for $100 we would actually pickup another TV or appliance along with your 36 inch TV.
The total out of the pocket cost should currently be $100, and there aren't any additional surcharges for going up stairs or heavy items. I will say that if our pickup team feels like it would endanger their safety to pick up your TV they could refuse to pick up the TV, and if this turns out to be the case you would get a full refund of the recycling charge.
If you want me to call your local store to make sure they have accurate information in regards to this just send me a private message. To send a private message log into the forum, click on my icon, and then click on the send this user a private message link.

Thank you very much, Allan.
For other readers - I contacted Allan privately. Not only did he contact my local store, but he got them to call me and set up a service appointment over the phone. Now that's service!
FYI, Allan - the local store's system is pulling up this pickup service at $130, so it still seems like the pricing system is not yet synced up with the website. However, they gladly adjusted the price to match the website.
Thanks again.

Hi Allan...I just found this post. I just hung up with the Champaign, Illinois store and was informed there was nothing they could do about my old SONY 36" CRT...purchased from Best Buy in 2002 I bleieve. Is it true that I could pay a 100.00 charge and get this picked up. If so, could you help me please?
Thanks, Dave

Hi there davidy57, I would send Allan a private message directly. It may take him a few days to see this post.

Hi davidy57,
I have to say that truly do apologize for the miscommunication you had with our store in Champaign, IL when you called to see if we would recycle a 36 inch CRT. I have a feeling that they felt like you were asking about our in-store recycling program, which would not recycle a 36 inch CRT. It is true that for a $100 we would come to your home and pick up your TV for recycling, and in fact for that fee you could also get another TV or appliance picked up for recycling.
I would like to get this taken care of for you, and I am sending you a private message to start that conversation. To check your messages you should log into the forum, and then click on the letter icon in the upper right-hand corner of the page.

I encountered the same problem yesterday at the Santana Row store. Having seen the recycling offer on the web site we went into the Best Buy to see if they would arrange to recycle our Sony KV36XBR400. The salesman we asked went off and talked to a manager and reported that BB won't recycle any model of TV that they didn't carry at some time (!?) and they had no knowledge of this program.
I've printed out the web page and this thread, and will give it another try at the Sunnyvale, CA store, but I would appreciate hearing that this program is indeed still in effect and if there's someone I can refer the store manager to in the case that they also are unaware of it (or would rather not deal with it).
Thanks!
Gavin

Hi Gavin,
I'm sorry for the miscommunication at our store in San Jose, and I have forwarded on your concern to the management of this store. All of our stores should be aware of our TV and Appliance haul-away service (to be recycled of course), and I am surprised that you were told that this store was unaware of this service.
It is absolutely not true we would only haul-away products that we had sold at sometime in our history. I'm sure our store in Sunnyvale has already taken care of this for you, but I have also copied their management into my email to the Santana Row store. If you need anything from me just send me a private message by clicking on the link in my signature.

Thanks for the response. We ended up calling around and found a place called, Green Mouse recycling in Sunnyvale who were willing to come and haul it away for free!
