Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

Okay this is good news. So how do I get started on merging my accounts? I am now a Silver member on my Best Buy Mastercard and I want to get rid of my old reward zone number and transfer my points and such… Thanks!

Oh that is great news. So they changed your mastercard over to silver? Maybe you will see them move your points too.

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

Not Yet... I was told that Best Buy can only merge a silver account with a silver account in order to keep your silver status. So if you just got your mastercard, just wait until you reach silver status and your accounts can be merged. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

I was told the same thing, get to silver on the mastercard and they can transfer the points no problem. I am assuming you reached silver status on your mastercard yourself and they didn't upgrade you? We really shouldn't have to reach silver status AGAIN and if that is the case they should put that in writing when you sign up, it is misleading when they ask for your current member ID number. I know the rewards program is to benefit the customers, but it is what gives them my business too, so it is definately a benefit to them since I have spent at least $3000 a year for the past two years at Best Buy! And now I am getting ready to do some Christmas shopping, but I want the benefits of Premier Silver membership before I do so I am just waiting on them.....

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

[ Edited ]

Hey Guys!  I was just surfing the web and noticed y'all have the same issue that I had back in January 2009.

The official reply that I got from BestBuy was that it's a "system limitation" and that they can't upgrade the basic level reward zone account tied to your Reward Zone Mastercard.  They will eventually tell you that "it doesn't take that long to earn the points to Silver Membersip again on your new account" so if you use the card all the time, you'd have the silver membership again pretty soon.

All in all, here's what I learned:

Here's what I learned from my little quibble with BB:

1.If you spend more than $2500 at BB you become a Premier Silver Reward Zone member.

2.To maintain Premier Silver membership status, you must spend $2500 while you are a member or earn the equivalent Reward Zone points.

3.Employees at Best Buy will tell you that if you get a Best Buy Reward Zone Master Card, so you can “easily” earn points faster since you can use it at places other than Best Buy.

4.When you get a Best Buy Reward Zone Master Card, they will create a new basic Reward Zone account and not a Premier Silver account for you. Congratulations! You will now be maintaining two accounts.

5.When you buy stuff with your Best Buy Reward Zone Master Card at Best Buy, you will not qualify for any Premier Silver promotions (like free CD’s, DVD’s or earn triple points). You must pay with a different credit card or use cash and then use your old Premier Silver Reward Zone card.

6.You will contact Best Buy and ask why your points aren’t showing on your Premier Silver account. You will ask to consolidate accounts but will be told that they have system limitation that prevents them from merging accounts.

7.Best Buy can transfer your points from your Premier Silver account into your Basic Account if you would like, but they will not upgrade your basic account. If you do this, I won’t lose my respect for your intelligence.

8.Points earned using your Best Buy Reward Zone Master Card does not go towards keeping your original Premier Silver status. You must spend another $2500 in one year at Best Buy using your Master Card to upgrade your new basic Reward Zone membership account to Premier Silver Status.

9.Customer service at Best Buy are very responsive but have become trapped by their own system limitations.

10.You will feel like an idiot for getting a Best Buy Reward Zone Master Card during an economic recession. You don’t need another credit card and more credit card debt.

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

I'm having the same issue. I have over 13,000 banked points and would have thought that my RZ number would have been on the new MC but apparently that is to confusing for the card issuer. So sad :-(  so has anyone had any luck resolving this issue?

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

Since I just recently reached silver status on my Mastercard. I will try to call Best Buy and try to merge my accounts… I will update you guys on how it goes.

What worries me is that I DO NOT want to lose my purchase history on my old reward zone number. I made some pretty big purchases on that card and I want to keep that history. I hope that’s not an issue.

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

Jorgio1781, do let us know if you have any success in merging your accounts and keeping your purchase history.  From what I was told over the phone, they only bump up the total number of your new reward zone points by the total from your old card. The history doesnt carry over because it is tied to the old account number. They told me it's a "system limitation."  They don't really merge any of your other profile information. They just consolidate your points into one card.

Re: Reward Zone Mastercard issue

So to reach premier silver on the mastercard do you need to spend $2500 at best buy or just $2500 anywhere? Thanks
