Products Refused to Being Returned

Beware when you buy ANYTHING at Best Buy. They are now using a company (The Retail Equation) that can deny to return a product even though you are still entitled under Best Buy's return policy.

I tried to return something recently and being a Silver member I have 45 days to return it and I only had the item for 3 days. They refused my return and after speaking with the store manager was told that this is something new they are doing per Best Buy corporate offices and no manager at any stores can overide this. Many returns are being denied and you are stuck with the item no matter what.

The products I went to return were 3 unopened products.  Now I am stuck with them.

Being this the case I see me not buying anything else at Best Buy since most likely will not return it based on this new system they are using.
I rather go somewhere else to do business with even if I have to pay more money.

I have also  found out from other people that their returns have even being denied even on defective products.

I will be telling others about this based on my experience and opinion and also posting it on many other public forums.

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

Sorry to hear about your problem, but BBY has been outsourcing it's return tracking for a little while now. It's stated in their policies and you can contact the company itself (TRE) to dispute the return not being accepted.

basically they were losing money on people returning used ite,s (probably more for big ticket items but nonetheless items), because they then had extra man power to process and check returns, QA them and if need be repackage them. All the while having to sell them for at least 10% off for being an open item. So they hired an outside company to track all these returns, that's why you need a Drivers license or picture ID to return as they can track it that way. When a person either goes over a set return limit (not sure if it's $ or items returned or both) they are flagged. If it continues then they are temporarily (normally 90 days) from returning items.

All this info is in their policies and they welcome you to call the TRE number to dispute any claim you may think is wrong.

I called the company and they told me there was nothing they can do about it and their decision was final no matter what !

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

Yeh sorry to hear that then. Just out of curiosity do you do a ton of returns? Or other details like how many, vague dollar amounts or if you had a lot of returns in a week/month/year etc.

While we all know that this can happen we are still only doing educated guesses on what the limits are. Each story helps to piece together what the limits are.

If you aren't fine divulging any of that info I understand. Just curiosity as BBY (besides a few uppermanagement I assume) don't even know the limits either. Of course it would boil down to a per customer basis, but there has to be a point at which the flag gets raised.

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

No I don't do many returns.  That's the thing.   I only done like 2 returns.

Best Buy has become such a joke !!!!!   They keep doing this I see them going out of business just like Circuit City did !

Won't be doing more business with Best Buy since they don't care and they can't do anything to solve anything.

Probably not what you want to hear as it doesn't ultimately solve the issue, but maybe you could have someone else return the items with their ID.

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

Thanks for that suggestion.    Actually that's what I ended up doing to get the money back.

It shouldn't have to be this way to get things done.  Best Buy has lost my business !  Thats for sure.

Take care and Merry Christmas !

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

You are absolutely right! I agree with everything you have posted. I'm also a silver member which does not hold any levy. I've talked to Customer Relations, Bestbuy store manager, third party company(rude) etc......there is no way to resolve this. I've also had to resort to not using my silver rewards at the time of purchase and getting a gift receipt just incase. It's so ridiculous. Without the 45 day return policy what good is the silver membership now? Walmart and most brick & mortar stores offer a standard 90 day return policy.

Skygunner:  Thanks for your feedback.  Also the return policy it is not "tied" to your silver membership.  They go by the ID that is used at the time of the return.

Re: Products Refused to Being Returned

Interesting. I really think it's ridiculous. As fast as they started implementing the block on returns with no resolve who's to say that they won't start denying returns based on the rewards program associated at the time of purchase? I want there to be no problems if I need to return. The embarrassing part is that all of my friends know I'm(was) loyal to bestbuy because of the old silver program. Almost a month ago I had to return another product because it was defective I had to have my friend do the exchange. He even laughed that I had to result to this with the so called silver rewards program.
