Today I went in to buy a Tivo Premiere Elite for a Christmas present for my wife. I'm a premiere silver customer, so I wanted to use one of the coupons for it. I checked with the Tivo Community to see if anyone had success using the coupons on Tivos in the past, and I got a postive response. So I went in, and got the Elite, then went to the cash register. The cashier must have been new, because he didn't seem to recognize the coupons. He finally got the 12% coupon entered....no discount. He tried the 10%...no discount. He kept saying it was because Best Buy didn't make the Tivos, and that Direct TV did.
The store was really busy, so I didn't push the subject. Instead, I went ahead and bought it. However, after getting home and reading the thread I posted at the Tivo community forums, it looks like everyone that has tried to use these coupons has suceeded. Supposedly, they are supposed to be considered part of the "Magnolia Home Theater" category, and thus eligible.
I already wrapped the box, because it clearly says what it is on the box itself. But I'd really like to get this straightened out. Could someone tell me what went wrong, and why I seem to be the only one to have issues trying to use the coupon on one of these units?
Here is the discussion on using the coupons: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.ph
And here are the coupons I was trying to use: http://m.bestbuy.com/mobile/coupons/coupon-premier
I would just wait until after Christmas and try and get it straightened out. But I'm not sure if there will be coupons available at that time or not. And post-Christmas rushes to return things are often a lot of trouble. Any help would be much appreciated. Even knowing what the problem is would be a lot of help. Those coupons are confusing and have like 3 pages of small font terms and conditions. ![]()

Thanks for the quick response. Do they actually send out different coupons? It seems like that would've been something people would have mentioned if they had to get an override or something.
Thank you for explaining all of that, though. It makes sense.
