Coupon Gave no Discount

Today I went in to buy a Tivo Premiere Elite for a Christmas present for my wife. I'm a premiere silver customer, so I wanted to use one of the coupons for it. I checked with the Tivo Community to see if anyone had success using the coupons on Tivos in the past, and I got a postive response. So I went in, and got the Elite, then went to the cash register. The cashier must have been new, because he didn't seem to recognize the coupons. He finally got the 12% coupon entered....no discount. He tried the 10%...no discount. He kept saying it was because Best Buy didn't make the Tivos, and that Direct TV did.

The store was really busy, so I didn't push the subject. Instead, I went ahead and bought it. However, after getting home and reading the thread I posted at the Tivo community forums, it looks like everyone that has tried to use these coupons has suceeded. Supposedly, they are supposed to be considered part of the "Magnolia Home Theater" category, and thus eligible.

I already wrapped the box, because it clearly says what it is on the box itself. But I'd really like to get this straightened out. Could someone tell me what went wrong, and why I seem to be the only one to have issues trying to use the coupon on one of these units?

Here is the discussion on using the coupons: http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=8825298&posted=1#post8825298

And here are the coupons I was trying to use: http://m.bestbuy.com/mobile/coupons/coupon-premier.html, specificially http://m.bestbuy.com/mobile/coupons/coupon-premier-3622177.html and http://m.bestbuy.com/mobile/coupons/coupon-premier-3622186.html

I would just wait until after Christmas and try and get it straightened out. But I'm not sure if there will be coupons available at that time or not. And post-Christmas rushes to return things are often a lot of trouble. Any help would be much appreciated. Even knowing what the problem is would be a lot of help. Those coupons are confusing and have like 3 pages of small font terms and conditions. :smileysad:

Re: Coupon Gave no Discount

It does not qualify for the 10% coupon because that is only valid on: ALL REGULAR-PRICED MUSIC, MOVIES, TV-DVD, TOYS, VIDEO GAMES, VIDEO GAME ACCESSORIES, PC GAMES, GADGETS AND EREADER ACCESSORIES (ANY COMBINATION, LIMIT 3)

The other coupon doesn't apply because the Tivo is classed as a cable and satellite t.v. product which is not included on the list of categories for the coupon. Just because others got exceptions made does not mean that that is Best Buy's position on the matter. If the coupon scans and doesn't take a discount that means it found nothing on the transaction that it applied to.

Re: Coupon Gave no Discount

Thanks for the quick response. Do they actually send out different coupons? It seems like that would've been something people would have mentioned if they had to get an override or something.

Thank you for explaining all of that, though. It makes sense.

Re: Coupon Gave no Discount

There is a large variety of different coupons. They actually sent out one that was for the tivo only a while back. The terms vary wildly on them as they are for different purposes.
