A question on how to qualify.

I noticed recently that I am close to qualifying for premier silver and with christmas shopping I will end up over $2500 for the calender year.  My concern is the 3-5 day post time for purchases and 35 day post time for points.  I know the actual purchase dates will fall within the calender year, however the points will not post in time.  Also if someone exchanges a gift and I go with them and present my card for the new purchase the transaction may not post by the first.

So I am wondering if the calender year is based on my date of purchase or post date.  Will I make it or am i already too late?

Re: A question on how to qualify.

I'm almost positive that it's based on the day of the qualifying purchases. I'll have to do a little more checking into it when I get to work tomorrow, and I'll post again to let you know.

Re: A question on how to qualify.

Okay, I stand corrected. I double checked with a Reward Zone phone agent, and the reward zone premier silver status is determined by the number of points you have at the end of the calendar year....meaning points that have posted by that point in time, not the purchases made.

Sorry for the confusion. Hope that helps you out!

Re: A question on how to qualify.

I'm pretty fired up about this. I just checked my rewardzone page and the annual year has rolled over and I am still a standard member. My December purchases pushed me well over $3500 but of course many of the points will not show up until the first and second weeks of January.

What pisses me off is the fact that nowhere does it state that POINTS must be accrued by the target date. It very clearly states:

"Reach Premier Silver status when you spend $2500 in a calendar year."

"Simply spend $2,500 at Best Buy stores or BestBuy.com® in a calendar year, and you're there."

Below the current total it states "Note: Does not reflect purchases made within the last 35 days." However, it says does not REFLECT purchases, it does not say it does not INCLUDE purchases. Not reflecting something is not showing it, it doesn't carry any inherent disqualifying meaning.

I am sure I am not the only person this has happened to. Best Buy, you should really be more clear about the status of points affecting the granting of Premier Silver membership.

Re: A question on how to qualify.

Please disregard my previous post. Apparently there is some misinformation about this. The purchases do apply, according to BB customer service, and Premier Silver should be granted when the points are awarded.

Re: A question on how to qualify.

I know that it's a little late, but as long as you made the purchases in 2009, the purchases were associated with your Premier Silver account, and your combined purchases for that year exceeded $2500 spent, you should achieve Premier Silver status in the normal timeframe for purchases to fully post, which is about 35 days. Premier Silver status is based on dollars spent, not points.

However, the process can be delayed or stopped by returns and exchanges - if a purchase is returned, the "dollars spent" is also returned, which takes away from the $2500 needed to qualify. If a purchase is exchanged, the purchase must "repost" to the account, but it should only delay the Silver status if the exchange was made in 2009. (If the exchange was made in 2010, it may not count for the 2009 qualifying period.)

From my understanding, the 35 day period is to allow for possible returns/exchanges. For instance, if a large purchase is made, and enough points are earned with the purchase to issue a certificate, and then the certificate is used on another purchase, but the product is somehow returned, the account will be deducted the amount of points earned on the original purchase, since it was returned. Needless to say, this can get complicated, and it is largely avoided by the 35 day timeframe.

This is just information that I thought may help you, which I derived from my own experiences - it may not help solve your issue, as every issue is different. I hope that by now, the moderators have helped you (or are planning to,) or your account has been upgraded. If not, I wish you the best of luck!

Happy 2010!

Re: A question on how to qualify.

...and although my information was probably interesting, I just read your last post, explaining that you are pretty much good to go. My apologies for the waste of space.

Happy 2010 anyway!
