Re: Elite Plus member - Certificates automatically issued

Hello Patty -

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the certificates that were issued. Please take a moment to review my previous responses to this thread.

At the end of every February, tier statuses expire. If you haven't spent the required amounts to retain your Elite or Elite Status, your tier status would revert to our Core status. At that time, your banked points would be converted to certificates as our Core tier doesn't receive the benefit of banking points. I apologize if you were unaware of this.

Please feel welcome to review our 2017 My Best Buy Tier Expiration FAQ and reach out to me via private message if you have any further concerns.

Rewards certificate

[ Edited ]

hi my name is James {removed per forum guidelines}, and I have a few questions about my rewards. I was an Elite member and I guess that my Elite status expired recently this month, but I really dont understand why that forces my reward points to automatically be turned into the certificates. I earned those points when I was still Elite so I should have a year to use them, not be forced to use them in 2 months.  I was saving my $125 for my upcoming phone upgrade later this summer. $125 is a lot of money and not just a $5 certificate. I had 6250 points saved up and that would be very upsetting if that was just taken from me. Is there a way that those certificates can be extended? Either that or reissue the certificates with a new expiration date. I have already emailed your online support exactly one week ago with no response. Thank you for your time and please reply back.

Re: Rewards certificate

Hello James

When  your membership was changed to normal membership the ability to bank points is not there.  As a normal member the best is issue at $20.  Banking is only for elite and elite plus members.

Re: Rewards certificate

Sorry but I was more looking for help from actual Best Buy customer support. I know the rules of the rewards members but I earned those points while I was an elite member and I refuse to forfeit 6250 points. Thanks anyways

Re: Rewards certificate

[ Edited ]

Hello James,

Welcome to the forum! After having so many points converted to a certificate when you didn't expect it, I can understand why you would be frustrated. As you may have read in my previous responses, tier statuses expire at the end of February each year. At that time if you are converted to our core membership, you would no longer retain the ability to bank points, and banked points would be converted to certificates, as ChrisyB75 kindly mentioned.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to extend the expiration date of these certificates or have them reissued. I apologize for any disappointment that this news may cause you. If you should have any questions, please feel welcome to reach out to me via private message.

Re: Qualify Best Buy Plus Rewards

Hello truelies,

Welcome back to the forum and thank you for reaching out to us regarding your tier status. If you haven't already, please take a moment to review my previous responses. Please know that portions of purchases paid for by gift cards or reward certificates don't count towards your tier status. Given this information, if you still believe you should have qualified, please feel welcome to reach out to me via private message.

Incorrect level

I am not sure why my level is basic. Based on my records, last year my net spend was over $2,000 so I would be an Elite member. Who do I contact about this?

Hello brow889 -

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your My Best Buy tier status! Please feel welcome to review the previous responses to this thread if you haven't already. Each year tier statuses expire at the end of February and customers are converted to the appropriate tier.

While you may purchase over $2,000 in products, it doesn't mean all the funds count towards your tier status. Portions of purchases paid for by reward certificates or gift cards do not count towards your tier status. With that said, I would encourage you to review your purchase history and if you still believe you should have qualified, please feel welcome to reach out.

Downgraded to Elite from Elite Plus this year, but I should be Elite Plus again - what happened?

I saw a few months ago that I was downgraded from Elite Plus to Elite status for 2017, but even though it didn't seem right I just let it go... However, now that it's May and I've bought a few things, I have to say I'm really annoyed that I don't have the free 2 day shipping anymore.   The delivery dates have been the deciding factor in not placing a whole bunch of orders, so I decided to do a quick tally of my 2016 totals just to see why my status was dropped to Elite.

Just adding up my purchases in 2016 using BestBuy.com's Order History for my profile shows almost $4,000 spent....

I know Gift Cards and Reward Certificates don't get counted in the total, and I don't think I included any in that total.   But I did make note of any orders that used Gift Card and/or Reward Certificates and the totals, and in 2016 in total I used $642.59 combined in Gift cards and Rewards Certificates.  So even if I included all of them, my 2016 total would still be well over $3250.00.

Why am I not Elite Plus if the threshold to gain that status is $2500?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me!
