I searched and the most definitive post I could find was from late 2015, so I wanted to ask again in case any policies have changed since then.
I recently received $150 in reward certificates from a purchase using my best buy credit card. The two certificates auto-issued and expire 10/14/17. I'm planning on buying the Xbox One X, which doesn't release until 11/7/17 and pre-orders have not opened yet.
As the console has received the FCC approval it needed already, I expect pre-orders will go live prior to 10/14/17. If so, and I'm able to pre-order online, will I be able to apply the certificates to the pre-order - even though the console won't release until a month after the certificate expiration?

You can rest your weary head and apply your certificates to a pre-order for the Xbox One X when they are available. Basically, a certificates expiration date is no longer a factor once a certificate has been applied to a purchase. That would include pre-orders. It would not matter that your certificates are set to expire before the official release of the Xbox One X in November. If for some reason you were to decide to cancel the pre-order, then the point value for your certificates would repost to your account within 3 to 6 business days. You could then convert them into new certificates with new expiration dates.
