Potential Reward Certificate Fraud

Yestersay I received a text from a relative that she used my $15 My Points certificate. She said she went to Best Buy to buy a HD antenna and the cashier asked her if she had a rewards card. She said I did so the cashier asked for my phone number and she gave it to him. He mentioned that I had a $15 gift certificate and if she wanted to use it. She said yes so got her antenna for $15 less. She didn't even know I had unused reward certificates until the cashier mentioned it. I still got $245 that haven't been used yet. It would be a disaster if she had used it and didn't tell me about it.  Do you know how easy it is to get people's phone numbers. Companies are selling their customers' phone numbers to other companies.

If she didn't text me and told me about it, I wouldn't even have known about it. I think you need to change how easy it is to steal someone's reward certificates just by providing a phone number and the cashier mentioning that I had reward certificates. I suggest that only printed certificates be accepted or if it's on their mobile devices. That makes it harder to steal or use without authorization.

Re: Potential Reward Certificate Fraud

Hi there BuckarooKangaro,

Welcome to the forum! It's discouraging to hear that your relative was able to use your rewards without your permission. Memberships are often shared amongst family members despite the program terms advising memberships are for individual use.

With that said, I would strongly encourage you to discuss this matter with your relative to ensure she doesn't use your certificates again in the future. Please also see that I am sending you a private message with further information. You may check your private messages by signing into the forum then clicking the envelope icon in the top right corner of the page.

Sincerely,
