Item out of stock

I recently ordered Yakuza 0 early in the morning when it was said that there were copies available for store pickup. After getting off of work I received an email, which stated that the item was currently out of stock. I understand that there are issues at times with the physical inventory not being updated virutally correctly all the time and can lead to misinformation in the system. However, there is no reason that a game just recently put on sale is all of a sudden out of stock online and in stores everywhere. I am showing no product in stock within 250 miles and many people are seeing the same thing.

My biggest complaint is that I have no idea what the next move to do is. I used a best buy certificate and did not want that locked up for a game that would not be coming back in stock. I ended up canceling my order so that I could use the certficate for a shipping purchase, or use in store immediately, but now I have been issued a $30 certficate once my points were put back into my account. I did not want to use the remaining points that I was saving up. Why is it that the max auto issue is at $20, but Best Buy automatically took the total highest amount I had and made that a certificate? I should have just been issued back the points and been auto issued another $20 with the rest of my points still in reserve rather than being forced into a $30, which now has an expiration date and has to be used as a full $30 rather than being able to use $20 now and use the rest later.

Normally, I am prefectly happy with Best Buy and usually hold off on any complaints, but I find it a weird buisness practice to have the ability to order online to reserve instore pickup, and then have it to where magically no Best Buys in the world it seems have any stock and the best bet is to get lucky with a small supply being availble to buy online and no word on if physical locations will get more shipments. Also, I should not be auto issued certificates with more than a $20 denomination.  Pretty frustrating experience.

Re: Item out of stock

Hello Jmatt_f,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for reaching out to us! I've heard that Yakuza 0 is a pretty spectacular game, so I'm glad to hear you were able to place an order with us using a $20 certificate. With that said, I'm sorry to hear that the order wasn't fulfilled as you expected as the availability may not have been what we anticipated, leading to the order's cancellation.

Certificates are generally returned in 3-6 business days. However, it's the points that are returned, not the certificate itself. I'm glad to hear that you received your points back in a timely manner, though I'm discouraged you may not have desired the $30 certificate to be issued. While you may set the minimum certificate preference, this only determines the minimum in which a certificate will be issued. Once you cross this threshold, the maximum certificate amount will be issued. I apologize if this isn't what you anticipated and if it's left you frustrated.

At this time, I would encourage you to keep an eye on BestBuy.com for any changes in the games availability. If you should have any questions, please let me know.

Re: Item out of stock

Thank you for the response.

While that makes sense, it also complicates the purchasing process. I ordered the game with a $20 certficiate, which lowered my cost to around $4 and some change, but now that I have been issued a $30 certificate, I can't even use it towards the purchase because now the value of the certificate is higher than that of the game. This now forces me to pay $20 more out of pocket, or purchase something else just to bring the total cost lower. This should not be an issue due to cancellation because of a nationwide misrepresentation of available stock the morning of a sale.

Hello Jmatt_f,

I apologize for any inconvenience that this experience and how things played out may have caused you. As it stands, we would not be able to issue a $20 certificate instead of the $30 one that is currently available to you.
