That was not my problem. I entered the correct number of leading zeros to get a 10 digit number.
While not entering enough digits should create an error message, I'm not sure if it would generate the error message I was receiving.

Speaking about this with some contacts here at the Corporate Office, I have found out that the cause of this error, when the Reward Zone ID is entered correctly, is actually a zip code mismatch in almost all cases. When signing up for a BestBuy.com account, one of the fields entered by you to create a user profile is zip code. This is seperate from entering a zip code on your billing or shipping information, so you may not realize the zip code being asked is the first one ever entered with us. We are working to ensure our representatives are aware of both the cause and solution for this error.
If anyone visiting this thread is encountering the same error, please send me a private message by clicking my username and then "send this user a private message." I'll be glad to help you.

Thank you for the info, Jason. I changed my RewardZone account zip code to the zip code I used when I created the BB.com account (have moved since setting it up) and it allowed me to add my RZ id to my BB acct. I immediately changed my RZ zip code back to the correct one, so hopefully it sticks. And I did not have to modify my shipping address on my BB acct to make it work.
Hopefully BB changes the verification technique or at least gives the user an opportunity to verify the zip used when setting up the BB acct.
