All or nothing policy when redeeming rewards certificates

[ Edited ]

The source of my frustration is the redemption police on your reward certificates,   specifically the all or nothing policy with redeeming the certificate.

Is it not just a credit on your account?

Why do I have to use the whole thing in one visit?

Do you have to print it?

On my visit to the store I just wanted to buy a few movies but the total was less than the certificate amount and the clerk said I could not use it.   She suggested I call the customer service number for more information.

When I called the customer service person was no help at all and basically just confirmed the policy.  She gave no reason or explanation for the policy or offered any solutions.   Not much customer service on this call.

As a work around:

Can this certificate be canceled and reissued is small amounts? Say $20 - $25 ?

Why can you not use it to buy a Best Buy gift card?  Better yet send preloaded gift cards instead of the reward certificate.

If these reward certificates are suppose to “reward” me for previous purchases or create good will or a present shopping experience it falling well short of that in fact it is creating ill will and a unpleasant shopping experience.

Are there any plans to review or update this process?

Please let me know if you have any questions for me and I look forward to your response.

Thanks

Re: All or nothing policy when redeeming rewards certificates

Hello Steve,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for reaching out to us to share your feedback regarding our certificates! Please know that certificates are applied pre-tax and are reflected as a discount on your purchase. As such, your purchase must be more than the amount of your certificate, pre-tax. I apologize if you were unaware of this when you visited the store with your certificate, leaving you taken aback, and if you were not provided a sufficient explanation. Please also keep in mind that we may identify products that are ineligible for purchase with reward certificates.

While we would be unable to cancel and reissue smaller certificates, please know that as an Elite customer you have the option of banking your points. This would allow you to issue certificates in the amount of your choosing (in $5 increments) as you desire and points allow.

If you should have any other questions, please feel welcome to review our My Best Buy program terms

Re: All or nothing policy when redeeming rewards certificates

Thanks for the reply.   This is the first time I received any explantion of this policy.   I spoke with a few clerks and they asked a manager at the store and got nothing.  Called customer service and got nothing.   I am finally glad a Social Media Specialist could finally help me.

So as a elite member can I return a printed certificate and reissue it in smaller amounts ?

Thanks

Steve

Re: All or nothing policy when redeeming rewards certificates

Hello Steve,

I'm glad I had the opportunity to offer an explanation! Unfortunately, we would not be able to issue smaller certificates, as previously mentioned in my original post. I apologize for any disappointment that this may cause you.

Please see that I am sending you a private message with further information regarding your certificates. You may check your private messages by signing into the forum then clicking the envelope icon in the top right corner of the page.
