Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

The PC App team got back to me regarding the download errors.  What you are downloading when you hit the "Install Manually" button in PC App is simply a PDF containing instructions on how to register your code on the Guild Wars 2 website.  There is no client you need to download through us.  The PC App team is double checking to make sure everything is working properly with that PDF download but that is all it is.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

Kyle, thanks but I'm not sure this makes sense.  We're talking about the "My Downloads" tab under "My Account", which gives the option to download the game.  It says right there that it's a 2.62 GB download (obviously much larger than a PDF), but doesn't download.  Here's a pic of what it says initially after you hit "Download and Install" next to your key code:

And when you try to start the download by pressing "Begin Download" just below that:

That's the issue here.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

Thanks for providing the screenshot, araman. I may be just shooting blanks here but  I can give you my best guess as to why this is occurring. :smileyhappy:

I think it's safe to say that the 2.62GB under "Install Size" is just a place holder because the minimum required HDD space that they currently recommend for playing GW2 is 25GB and that is, by far,  much larger in size. Not sure if the beta client will be this size but it should be fairly close to it.  Besides,  ArenaNet still has the client  "under lock and key" until the next BWE (beta weekend event).

I believe the pc app isn't programmed to show that the game status is "not ready" in the scenario where no one even has access to it yet.  So the app probably just outputs a number in the field until  the download is available, then the number may change to reflect the actual size (But, then again, it may not as past experience has shown Best Buy having trouble keeping up with GW2-related events).

This is the first time that Best Buy (among other retailers) is participating in a "Pre-Purchase program" so the pc app software is probably not prepared to deal  with games that have not been released to the public and are not in their final stage.  That is why, even though I have never used this pc app, my gut feeling told me to wait for ArenaNet to provide the download link so that I may download it from them directly.

Who knows? Maybe you won't even need the pc app if you can successfully install the GW2 client without it. //ended sentece with a preposition, yay!

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

Doh! I edited my post so much in response to yours that I forgot what Kyle posted.   He did mention that there isn't a client to be downloaded through the app, so at least we know for sure that we have to wait for Anet. ^_^

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

Hi. I have a question about the CE but not pre-purchase. Does Best Buy has any allotment of GW2 CE at all. If NCSoft currently plans to sell 10k (just an example) copies of CE in the US, and all 10k copies are reserved for GameStop, then BB has no CE to sell, pre-purchase or pre-order or otherwise. I feel much less confident about efforts to acquire an allotment from NCSoft than if Best Buy already has an allotment of CE but has not decided on how to sell them (pre-purchase, regular pre-order with other benefits, etc.) If this information is not trade secret, I would very much appreciate an answer.

I don't particularly care about the pre-purchase, but if BB is currently not even an authorized retailer of the CE in any form, then I need to change my purchase plans accordingly. Thanks!

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

The PC App team got back to me saying you should be good to download that PDF file now if you try again in your "My Downloads" section.  They found something that was likely causing the errors you were seeing and corrected it.  And I believe juju217 is correct regarding the "Install Size" - it is likely just a placeholder for the size of the game files and not reflective of what you are actually downloading, the PDF instructions.

As for the CE, I don't have the specifics behind our arrangements with NCsoft so for now, consider Best Buy as only carrying the digital versions.

Still hoping you'll be getting the CE and soon.

Just keeping an eye out.

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

That answers the CE of guild wars 2 but what is the progress on a pre purchase for a physical standard edition?

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

Hummm... we went from ArenaNet confirming that BB would be getting CE's, with the web site listing BB as an official retailer, to April 13th for the CE, to "We are working hard to bring you a CE package", to... assume we are not going to do anything?

I dont really feel like BB is "trying hard" to bring us a CE package :smileysad:

Re: Guild Wars 2 Pre-purchase program

@Fera6037 - The physical standard edition is the same story; I'm not sure if we're going to carry it but I am continuing to pass all of your feedback up the line.  This thread certainly is getting a lot of visibility considering that it was one of the most active on the forums overall last week. You are making the demand evident!
