Games on Windows 7?

Let's just say that if I got a computer game that says can be used on Windows 98/ME/2000/XP.  Can it be played on Windows 7?  Because on the box cover of a game that it didn't say anything about Windows 7.

Chances are usually pretty good, and it's just an older game that was released prior to the existence of Vista/Win7.

I'd suggest doing some Googling (e.g. Google the game name and "Windows 7") to research if there might be specific issues with that particular game.

Re: Games on Windows 7?

It can also depend on what bit version of 7 you have 32-Bit or 64-Bit as well as exactly how old that game is. Several games designed in that time frame were 32 bit but they still had 16 bit installers. Generally almost everything around XP launch and after are 32 bit but some 16 bit installers did go out. If this is the case with any of the games you are wanting they wont install since 64 Bit windows does not support 16 bit installers.

Re: Games on Windows 7?

I love this posting as I am a brave guinea pig when it comes to testing games! Many games from older operating systems will run on the 32 bit edition of Windows 7 , with better support for those apps then Vista. I have quite a few that does not list Windows 7 as the OS and they all work fine.

They will work for the most part, unless they rely on older multimedia or Windows runtimes, but you will need a non-widescreen monitor as older games generally do not support widescreen resolutions and the ones that do usually won't work on a 16:9 display as they were made when 16:10 was the widescreen standard for PC displays.
