Would like a fair price match completed

Good Morning,

 

The other day I ordered a product from best buy online for store pickup.  I have never used this service before as most of the products are quite overpriced, but I was advised price matching would be available so I made the order.  The order was for a EVGA Geforce 1060 SSC 6GB graphics card.  Manufacturer part # 06G-P4-6264-KR.

 

However when I got to the store, it took the folks at the counter about 30 minutes to tell me that they would not be price matching it, because the model number on their package was 06G-P4-6264-KB.  The only difference is the very last letter of the number.

 

I have done quite a bit of research and they are the exact same product.  What is very odd and seems a bit flim flam to me is that the Best Buy chain of stores is the ONLY retail outlet that sells this model number.  In fact if you go to the manufacturer's website, they dont even list the KB variant.  http://www.evga.com/support/specs/default.asp?fam=GeForce%2010%20Series

 

I find it extremely odd that this product at a Best Buy is overpriced by $40 to $50 dollars when compared to basically anywhere else, yet it is the EXACT same product with a one digit different model number.  Borderline bait and switch.

 

I called the Best Buy customer service today and after getting an automated callback, then holding for about 10 minutes was greeted by a representative who was very combative and basically told me he would fill out a form but wasnt going to gaurantee anything would happen and if I didnt hear back from them I could just assume nothing would be done.  The representative then put me on hold without warning, and transferred me to the reward points department, who of course could not help me.  So I am now here.

 

I would like a fair price match completed.  If this can be granted to restore the integrity of your operations so be it.  If not, I certainly will not be taking my business to a Best Buy ever again, and will advocate the same among my colleagues.

If the model numbers don't match exactly then unfortunately this wouldn't qualify for the price match guarantee. Even if it's the same item by specs and or whatever if the model number isn't exact it doesn't qualify.

It isn't bait and switch. It's actually a way for all retailers to sell the exact same product and offer price matching as an incentive but to never actually have to match any price outside their own store. It started in the late 1980's with televisions. I would suggest returning the product for a refund and buying it where you can save the $40-50. Do it quick, you only have 15 days from the day it was shipped to the store. Then if the price at Best Buy drops below the amount you saved, return it to that other place and re-buy it from Best Buy. Chances are it won't happen but you never know.

Before posting I try to research everything first or use my own experiences. I do not now nor have I ever worked for Best Buy. After a year and a half hiatus, I'm back working for the competition.

We’ve been a little behind in our replies here on the forum due to some higher than normal volume for this time of the year, so I appreciate your patience while waiting for assistance. I realize this couldn’t have been easy, particularly as it sounds like you’ve been given a bit of a run around when requesting a price match. It should be relatively easy to receive a valid price match, and I’m sorry to hear things didn’t go according to plan.


As you may know, we do have a Price Match Guarantee in place for qualifying items just in case the price drops within your purchase’s Return and Exchange Promise. After pulling up your recent online order, I do see that your graphics card is indeed within its allotted 15-day window; however, we are unable to honor the price match request if the competitor’s listing doesn’t match our model number. This is because we require that the item is identical to the purchased one. I apologize if we failed to properly explain this at the time of your visit and for any frustration this may cause.


I realize this may not be the answer you were hoping for, but if you have any other questions, please feel free to review our Price Match Guarantee for further assistance.

I hear what you are saying.  You are reiterating the same policy and mentioning other nonapplicable ones.  You are ignoring the point(s) that highlight how unethical this practice is.

Please know this decision was not made lightly, but regrettably, we would not be able to honor your price match request under our Price Match Guarantee. This is because we do not consider the two graphics cards to be identical if the model numbers do not match up.

That is super convenient for your organization seeing as how they are the same item.  Simply saying something does not make it correct or true.  And in this case, it does not save it from being highly unethical.  Your company changes that one digit for the explicit purpose of claiming exclusivity, and being able to thinly claim that they are not the same under your Price Match Guarantee.  

 

Quite frankly, your factionally minded approach to this issue has been boring and now bordering exhausting.  You will not be receiving anymore of my business or recommendations.

06G-P4-6264-KR 06G-P4-6264-KB are two different Model numbers they are different for a reason in some cases it means when it was manufactured or a new model

AKA these two spot the difference?

The first model number you are quoting as being 06-P4-6264-KR does not match the product you are linking.

 

The first product you linked is actually:  

 

06G-P4-6161-KR

 

And is not even close to the subject of this thread.  You can see this yourself in the link.  Not sure if this is an honest mistake or what.  But your point, sir, is moot.

 

Again.  There is no difference in the products I am actually talking about.
