Question about Recycling TVs

I noticed that the "Accepted Electronics" list for your e-cycling program states that you do not accept TVs that are larger than 32". Does that refer to the diagonal of the screen, or the diagonal of the entire set?

I ask because I have an old CRT TV (Toshiba 24AF43) that I'm trying to recycle, but while the screen diagonal is 24", the diagonal for the entire set is just barely over 32" (TV dimensions 26.5" x 20" x 18.5")

Thank you for your help.

Re: Question about Recycling TVs

It is by screen size, not the physical TV size.  It looks like it should qualify for the under 32 inches.  Do keep in mind to check that your store does that kind of recycling as not all stores do.

I hope this helps

Re: Question about Recycling TVs

Hello MinoriOm,

Welcome to the Best Buy Community forums. I’m very proud of Best Buy’s recycling program and am always happy to answer questions about it. Thank you so much for recycling your television rather than just throwing it away.

As ChristyB75 says, the diagonal is measured across the screen itself, and does not include the bezel of the television. It sounds like yours should be within the size requirements. You can check out our Electronics and Appliances Recycling page for full details. It’s always a good idea to call ahead to check to make sure there are no local or stay laws or regulations that cause your local store to differ from our general recycling policies.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
