"Pick up in store" not a real option

I appreciate the fact that Best Buy is now offering musical instruments; however, I am disappointed that there are several markets that that do not have the musical instrument stores...unfortunately  mine is one of them (Utah).  I was looking to purchase an amplifier, so I went to the musical instrument section of  BestBuy.com.

 

I found the amp I wanted to purchase and selected the "pick up at store option" as I have several Best Buy locations near me. I quickly discovered that, because the Best Buy stores in my area are not music stores, they do not carry the amp I wanted in stock.  My only re-coourse was to pay the additional shipping charges (about $50), which makes buying the amp from Best Buy a more expensive option than picking it up locally from another retailer.

 

Many of the other retailers now offer the option to their online customers of having their order sent to their local store, instead of their home, free of charge.  For example, I recently was able to pick up my special order at Staples, for no extra charge.  This puts Best Buy at a real competitive disadvantage in markets with no Musical Instrument locations.  It would be beneficial for Best Buy to allow "in store pick ups" for musical instruments in the markets with no musical instrument stores. 

 

Is this something Best Buy would be willing to offer their online customers to stay competitive with other retailers?

I would say go to one of the stores and see if they can order it in for you to the store. I am in a similar situation but found that so long as it doesn't say "available only online" that the store closest to me is able to order it in to the store and not have to ship it to my house. I'd say stop by one and ask about it.

Thanks for the suggestion!  I went into the Best Buy in Sandy and they were more than willing to order the item in for me.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet because the items they ordered are on back order!  I just hope it comes in by Christmas...

Yea, unfortunately back ordered product has been an issue lately.  We are going through a major product transition right now.  I hope it shows up soon though! Hopefully we'll get a musical instrument store near you sometime!
