Musical Instruments

Do you currently or have you in the past had any interest in buying an instrument for someone? For example a friend, relative, son or daughter.

I personally have never thought of buying an instrument for anyone until recently. My brother and sister are considerably younger than me and I want music to be an option for them as they grow whether they choose it as a hobby or not.

But then I started to think it would be a good gift idea for a few of my friends who I know would never buy an instrument for themselves but are interested.

What do you think?

I think gear is a great gift idea for friends and relatives.

But considering how expensive instruments can be, especially ones of quality, I would hesitate if I thought there was a chance that they wouldn't be interested in it or not give actually learning the instrument a fair chance.
I would hate to think I bought someone a nice guitar that would just collect dust because they decided they wouldn't want to actually learn how to play it.
