Two questions about electric guitars

I am 17 and looking to learn to play an electric guitar. Which guitar should I get? I don't have any equipment at the moment except some picks. Any guitar price is fine under $1,000

One of my friends had a device that was about 7in by 5 in and about the shape of a square. He plugged his electric guitar and a pair of headphones into this device. The sound of the guitar came through the headphones so all I heard was the sound of the strings. Sort of like watching someone play electric drums. I can't always be playing so this would be a nice item. What is this device and where can I find it? Sorry if this question is noobish :smileytongue:.

Re: Two questions about electric guitars

Sounds like what he is plugging into is a Multi-effects pedal. Those range anywhere from $50 and up depending on how much control you want.

Re: Two questions about electric guitars

As far as your first guitar goes, there ultimately isn't a right or wrong choice but it's nice to get something that will actually last you a while.  Fender Mexican Made Standard Stratocasters are versatile guitars that can be used in all types of music settings. You can pick one up for under $500 including a gig bag to carry it around in.   This leaves plenty of money in the budget to buy an amplifier, stand, strap, tuner, cable, and any other extra's you might need.  I have a lake placid blue Standard Strat in my collection with a rosewood neck and a sparkle pick guard...It shimmers real nice when you throw some bright lights on it or play it outside.

In regards to the portable guitar jamming device the Line 6 Pod 2.0 would be a pretty neat preamp solution because it can emulate so many different amplifiers.  You'd be jamming in your headphones in no time.

Check it out: Line 6 Pod

Best of luck!
