Little to no variety, dont even carry the basics

My younger brother just turned 14 and I wanted to get him something for his birthday that was useful and would last so I stopped by my local best buy store to buy him a beginner DJ set.

Keep in mind that he has never DJ'ed before but I figured in this recession what better time to give him a tool that can eventually turn into his profession.

So I went and picked out a Stanton Dual CD Player and started looking for a 19" mixer which is standard to use with any rackmount CD Player only to find out that they dont carry any...

I completely understand not having a variety due to the limited space but they need to have at least 1 19" mixer.

I then realized that I was wasting my time because who ever was doing the buying for this store definitely did not know anything about DJ's so instead I went to my local MI shop and bought an entire Gemini system for him there, and the kid couldnt be happier.

I dont usually share this info but I just had to because I dont want Best Buy to do away with the DJ category because I do pick up some odds and ends there but I cant imagine sales are good with the way it is set up now so figured I would offer my insight

Re: Little to no variety, dont even carry the basics

I'm sure I can speak for most associates when I say 'sorry' for not being able to fulfill your needs.

However, remember that we are relatively new to this game.. And we strive to always fill our customers

needs. As time goes on, I am sure that this area will expand with selection, and we will offer much more

to our customers. It just takes time. I think overall though, we have a phenomenal start in being able

to offer an alternative to what our customers want. At our store, we take requests seriously, and love

hearing about the products you like. Feel free to share this with your local MI associate. We always do

as much as we can to suggest to the powers that be what our customers are asking for.

Re: Little to no variety, dont even carry the basics

As a DJ(I work for the largest DJ company in the US) I feel your pain when I went to grab a few goodies for my company system. Hopefully we will grow our selection in that area.

If you like my post, or solution to your issue/question, go ahead and click on the little star by my name and/or accept the post as the Solution. It makes me happy.

I'm NOT an employee of Best Buy, or Geek Squad, though I did work as an Agent for a year. None of my posts are to be taken as the official stance that Best Buy will take on your situation. My advice is just that, advice.
Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

Re: Little to no variety, dont even carry the basics

I know the store in my area is getting cranked up to start selling more and more instruments and DJ gear. They're busting out an entire corner of the store to devote to musical instruments.. Can't wait. The guy in the Camera Department says they're gonna carry the Eric Clapton Fender Strat - among other top axes.. I can't bloody wait for that!!!

Cheers

Come back to Best Buy in a year when that Gemini starts to malfunction and we'll set you up with something that will really work for you.
