I am learning to play the guitar and I have the Maestro by Gibson - 6-String Full-Size Acoustic Guitar (made left-handed) and I was wondering which guitar strings would be best. Right now it has the strings steel strings that come with it, but I was wondering if nylon strings or something else would be better to use (for either better sounding and/or ease). I am playing mostly R&B songs and I usually use a pick and occassionally finger pick (not sure if all that really matters). Thank you for your help!

Hello YungMunyBarbie,

It's great to hear you're starting guitar, and the Maestro series by Gibson is a good way to kick it off.  Although some nylon strings can physically fit on a steel string acoustic, the guitars are not built with the nylon strings in mind.  Nylon strings are usually used on an classical acoustic and they might sound quiet on a steel string model.

If you are looking at steel strings, I do have some suggestions, although the best way to find out what fits you best is by just trying one pack and seeing if you like it.

D'Addario's are nice a warm tone and any of the sizes would do nicely in my opinion.

These are just a few suggestions; however, you can really try anything and I encourage that you do.  One person's tatse can differ from another's and, finding the right fit might just take some testing.  Let me know if you have any other questions, and keep on playing!
