Good distortion pedals?

I have a peavey valve king 100 watt head and run it through a crate blue voodoo cab. Its not a bad set up but the distortion is weak so im currently using a digitech death metal distortion pedal. I am curious if there is anything else better suited for high gain metal music though. Also i use a 6 string in C standard and a 7 in B stanndard, if that even makes a difference. Any suggestions?

Re: Good distortion pedals?

Come in and try out the Line 6 Uber Metal or the Boss Metal Zone.  Both are fantastic pedals.  The Line 6 pedal has an extra feature called scoop which adds an extra level of control to the distortion.

Re: Good distortion pedals?

I recommend using a ProCo RAT, especially for low tunings as the tone knob allows you to focus on lower frequencies coming through. It has more of a fuzzy sound than distortion, I think, but it still sounds really good and cleans up with your guitars volume control nicely.
