Re: Who is going to see Harry Potter??

I went to see it Friday night.  I'm a big fan, but wasn't as impressed with this movie as I had hoped.  I'm used to nearly feeling like I'm a part of the story, and this time it felt like I was watching a movie and never really got pulled into the 'enchantment' of the experience (pardon the pun).  I was impressed as always with the sets, costumes, effects, and so on, and am definately glad I saw it.  I just think it could have been a little more captivating.  I agree with the earlier comment that parts seemed choppy.

Re: Who is going to see Harry Potter??

I think that this may simply be one of the problems the franchise has encountered by having four different directors so far - each director has their own editing style.  I have to go one step further though to say that it would have been very difficult to follow if I didn't have prior knowledge of the plot.

Re: Who is going to see Harry Potter??

I agree that having 4 different directors for the franchise has probably been detrimental to the process, but I also think that 3 out of the 4 directors really brought something to the story.

With Chris Columbus and the first two films, he really brought the magic of Hogwarts to the screen (at least for me, he did)

Alfonso Cuaron was an interesting choice in my eyes. Prisoner of Azkaban is probably my least favorite of the films at this point, when it's probably my favorite book of the series. But I will admit that he did start taking the movies to the darker undertones that would continue through out the rest of the season.

Mike Newell....I don't know what he was thinking. I had so many issues with Goblet of fire that it is really low on my list of favorite films of the franchise. Granted, I know it's a long book, and they did cut a LOT out, but I think some that was cut would have served better left in.

And with David Yates...Well, I think that he's done the best job of bringing the books to the screen (short of Chris Columbus). You can tell he has paid attention to every detail of the book, and that he really wants to make the world of Harry Potter as plausible as possible. I'll tell ya, when I saw the scene at Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, I was just in awe and thought to myself, "This is how it looked in my mind". I really think the fact that Yates is finishing out the series is a good thing, as I think one more director's style might kill me.

Okay, I'm done being my own film critic...getting off my soapbox now....

Not me I have not seen any of them. Even when they were on Directv. I hate the whole concept.

Awesome book series, awesome movie series so far, absolutely can't wait for the last two movie installments! I have goosebumps just imagining the final battle.
