Star Trek redux

Hello all,

I’m an unashamed Star Trek fan and was looking forward to the new movie with hope, enthusiasm and a little dread.  While it’s been a long time since there has been any new Star Trek at all, I had some trepidation about the new creative team being able to get it right and live up to the storytelling standards set in the 1960s TV series.

Thankfully, I was not disappointed.  I thought that the movie offered a fresh take on the original premise while giving me what I wanted most:  more Captain Kirk, Spock, and Dr. McCoy -- and a surprisingly fun take on Mr. Scott!  That the story was engaging -- and the pace of the film was best described as breakneck -- was a bonus.  I also liked that the filmmakers gave themselves room to develop new stories without having to take everything previously done into consideration.

What did you think?  Did it meet your expectations or exceed them?   What was your favorite part?

Re: Star Trek redux

I shamed my family when I was born to a family of "Trekkies" and then became a total Star Wars fan. However I could not resist the urge to go the theater and experience this retelling for myself.

This movie did what my family could not. It made me interested in Star Trek again. I thought it was refreshing and interesting in many aspects and the fact they used the tried and true Time Travel option didn't hurt the story at all.

My favorite part of the movie was when Old Spock met young Kirk. "I am Spock" to which Kirk responds "Bull***t" Perfect response and really made me laugh.

My least favorite was the fact that the phasers sounded like toy guns. PEW PEW! But this was such a minor inconvenience it didn't hurt the viewing experience at all.
