Before I get into my picks for February 12, a quick reminder that the 55th annual Recording Academy awards show airs on February 10 at 8/7c! For a breakdown of some of the great deals that we’re offering on many of the nominated songs and artists, check out our Award Nominees 2013 page on BestBuy.com! Now, on to some new releases…
Mother Mother will be releasing their fourth album, The Sticks. This album has been available in Canada for several months now, and I’m really excited to finally be able to get my hands on it here in the US. I first heard of this band with the 2008 release of their second album, O My Heart. This album contained so many addicting songs like “O My Heart,” “Body of Years,” “Hayloft,” and “Wrecking Ball” that I’ve been a huge fan ever since. After hearing their new songs, “Bit By Bit” and “The Sticks,” I get the feeling that they’re venturing into a slightly darker sound, but it still features the incredible blend of male and female vocals that really attracted me to this band in the first place. You can find the rest of their releases here.
Foals will be releasing their third album, Holy Fire. This album is the first I’ve heard of this band from across the pond and is one of those bands I really wish I would have heard of sooner. From what I’ve heard so far, they have a great rock sound with a bit of a dance vibe. While listening to one of their new songs, “My Number,” I find myself bobbing my head and tapping my foot without even realizing I’m doing it. You can find the rest of their releases here.
The Stone Foxes will also be releasing their third album, Small Fires. This blues rock band has had their song “Beneath Mt. Sinai” featured in the TV shows Shameless and Sons of Anarchy, and is another band that I feel I’m late to the party on. After hearing their newest single, “Everybody Knows,” I’m really looking forward to being able to give this new album a full listen.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower stars Emma Watson, largely known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, as well as Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller. It is a coming of age drama that is the story of introverted high school freshman Charlie as he attempts to deal with several issues in his life, all while trying to find any group of people that he feels he can fit in with. I feel like this movie has lots of parts that many people will be able to identify with, and I’m really looking forward to picking this up on Tuesday. This movie is rated PG-13, and you can view the trailer here.
Robot & Frank stars Peter Sarsgaard, Frank Langell, Susan Sarandon, James Marsden, and Liv Tyler. This film takes place in the near future, and is the story of Frank being given a robot caretaker by his son to help look after him. The two become unlikely companions, and with Frank being an ex-burglar, he decides to see if this robot can assist in restarting his old career. This film is rated PG-13, and you can view the trailer here.
What is everybody else looking forward to? Did anyone pick up any other great new releases recently?
